Selling 650 shares of ALA to rebuy in the TFSAs in January. It is the only losing position in the portfolio and hence the highest yielder. Will take the loss against some prior gains for taxes. I always put the highest yielders in the TFSAs.

Keep in mind the superficial loss rules (must wait 31 days before buying in the TFSA).

Yeah, thanks. I've marked the 29th of January for the purchase.

Sold half of my Gain Capital Holdings (NYSE:GCAP) at $12.7 this morning (from $8.35). What a crazy move. My best trade this year.

Is it not too soon to tell if that is your best trade for 2018?

sold all my TDB904 (S&P) & 905 (Intl Equity) + some TDB8150. Will buy ETFs to replace in New Year (likely VFV & VEA).

You are right. I guess being in my TFSA I just didn't didn't care about the settlement date being in 2018 :). Happy new year @Alta

Sold my Pimco CEF's at the end of the year, PDI and PCI. I am unsure where these sorts of holdings are going to go, they had a rocky final quarter with questions about payout coverage. I am also trying to simplify and fortify my portfolio, for some anticipated future rockiness in the markets, and CEF's that invest in a myriad of high yield foreign debt, non-agency MBS and derivatives are not the sort of thing I really want right now.

They were not a core holding, I have had them for about a year and was using them to park some spare cash. Got out with a low single-digit gain on both, not including the ~9% dividend. Am looking using the proceeds to bulk up on utilities and consumer discretionary.
