Marsh & McLennan increases its quarterly dividend from 19 cents to 20 cents.

Doesn't sound like much, but they were (unoficially) a member of the Dividend Aristocrats, for increasing their dividend every year since becoming public in the early 60's until a few years ago, when former NY Attorney General Mr. Spitzer took its former CEO and founder Hank Greenberg in his crosshairs and tried to create a Conrad Black out of him. The case is still not resolved, but in the meantime they had to cut the dividend in half a few years ago, they fired the founder and took other drastic measures.

They used to be (still are?) the biggest insurance broker in the world, followed by AON Corporation. In a strange twist, #3 or #4 broker, Willis Group is now trying to buy Marsh.

I am short puts on Marsh (i.e. bullish).

I was a little suprized with the CNR bump, I was actually expecting only a cent....but the forward yield is over 2% now, same old story of favorable value, good management etc. I will be buying a bit in the next few days....lets see if this works out for me.

Actually, I was expecting a little more, given the historical trend, however, in a tough environment with a recession looming, I am very pleased with 10%.

Perhaps this tidbit doesn't belong here, but Wachovia didn't CUT their dividend, and the CEO announced they had no plans to. I consider this a massive dividend hike! :D
