Happy New Year 2018 and some annual housekeeping

Post by Peculiar_Investor »

Happy 2018 to all FWF'ers.

As is our usual practice, a number of 2017 specific topics have been locked and corresponding 2018 topics created for your use.

We would make one request this year, as has happened in previous years as well, the Clippings 2017 contains a number of sub-topics and follow-up posts that probably could have stood alone as their own topics. As an experiment for 2018, a 'Clippings 2018' has not been created and we'd ask members to create subject specific topics were possible for discussion of things you have read elsewhere.

On the matter of creating a new topic vs adding to an existing topic, it is often a six of one, half dozen of another when choosing to create a new topic. When you factor in the inevitable topic drift that often happens, some topics end up containing multiple sub-topic discussions. If you have searched and haven't found a topic specific to your subject of discussion, let's try creating new topics in 2018 rather than adding to topic drift of existing topics.

As always, your feedback on these suggested changes is appreciated. The goal is membership engagement and to provide the best possible environment towards our mandate of providing a place 'Where Canadian Investors Meet for Financial Education and Empowerment'.

It appears that our hosting provider was having some issues this morning, but as far as I know they seemed to have resolved themselves.

If anyone is still seeing the error, could they please try the following:
Peculiar_Investor wrote: 28 Nov 2017 20:04 A small tip that might ease the pain of these continually SQL ERROR messages. I've noticed that they appear to be cached by the hosting provider, so hitting reload will immediately return the same error. What has worked somewhat for me today is to press Ctrl+F5 to force a hard reload from the server. Unfortunately it doesn't always work.

Again, thank you for your patience as we try and get this resolved with our hosting provider.
