Posting Photos or Images

Post by CROCKD »

What software do people here use to post images? I see from the forum discussion that the image must already exist on the internet so that the URL may be addressed. That presupposes that if the picture does not exist in a newspaper or magazine etc. that a personal picture etc has been uploaded to some website. I was going to register for TinyPic but I keep seeing posts on the forum where it says, for TinyPic, Image removed.

A modification has now been applied to the software that allows images to be posted directly. Use the "browse" button above the small box below the response box to find and upload an image from your computer.

Testing. (picture taken from beach to "Casa Steves") Believe it or not, 500 yards straight back thru the trees is a pub. (I have never lived within walking distance of a pub before... it is still a novelty).

The upload limit seems to be 1 MB. The photos my camera takes are way above that. How do you guys get photos < 1 MB?

If you are using WindowsXP, download and install the image resizer powertoy. There's one for Vista, too. Install and right-click on a picture to resize. One option is 640x480.

There's a nice suggestion here that seems really straightforward.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with Thunderbird as e-mail manager. Right-clicking on the attachment yields no Save As option.

I do a lot of picture work in another forum and find that IrfanView (still free) is a great and powerful tool to manipulate pictures.
I then use "waterMark V2" to claim ownership if it's my own picture (I know, there are ways around a watermark, but it helps a bit). If you use Windows 9x/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003., then you can use IrfanView.

I received an email from my niece in BC. She had attached 3 photos. One of she and her daughter, one of she and her sister, and one of her sister and her daughter. I can see that they are three different photos as the thumbnails. However, when I double click on them two are repeats. The one of her daughter and sister show twice and the one of herself and her daughter does not open. I have tried to save them.. same result. The file sizes are all different??? What is this?

Most mail systems (gmail, outlook, apple) store the photos in their cloud and just send thumbnails. So when you click you are retrieving the original from their cloud. I know with outlook, I have to sign onto Skydrive to reliably send pictures.

Okay, but why is it I see three different thumbnails, but when I open them I only see two pictures, one twice?

I can't seem to figure out how to post a photo. Can someone please tell me how or post a link to a thread that will explain?
Thanks

Is the photo on a public URL or not?

David

Follow the section which says upload attachment below where you are posting.
For example this G&M editorial cartoon.
Note the picture has to be only a certain size. Somewhere in the Now Hear This is the guideline.

Select the file name. You can find where you have it with Browse.
Then you click Add the file which uploads it.

Ah, "Upload attachment". Got it, thanks. (I was trying to figure out Shakespeare's instructions from June 2009, above.)

I snapped this shot in San Francisco last week - a shabby looking door at street level, with a somewhat familiar name...

CROCKD's image with a direct link instead of an attachment.
