I think you just did. Each and every contribution makes finiki a better resource. Many of the contributions come about based on FWF discussions. A wiki editor might make the actual edit, but the information comes from the collective knowledge of the FWF community. Thank you all.

A heartfelt thank you to those who launched and nurtured finiki during the early years. At the risk of offending others, I believe that Shakespeare did much of the heavy lifting/editing in the early days.

One last small plug, any FWF member can help improve finiki. Check out Help:Getting started for some ideas on what is needed to help out. It isn't difficult, if you can edit a forum post you can contribute to the wiki.

I'm just one of the cogs in the machine. According to https://www.finiki.org/wiki/Special:ActiveUsers that torch is currently being carried by wiki editor Quebec. From memory that's been the case for quite a while now.

Wiki's are a collaborative effort where editors build on the work of others before them and often draw information and ideas for FWF topics and posts.

Each contribution, whether new or updated information, a simple correction of a typo, or addressing feedback from a FWF post or feedback on an article improves the wiki.

My soft sales pitch in case anyone is wondering, if you have the knowledge and skills to post here then you also have the ability to help with the wiki.

I think that it's pretty impressive what has been accomplished from what started out as the brainchild of four independently minded DIY investors. It's a legacy that we can all be proud of only further enhanced by the partnership with the Bogleheads Community that has created a sort of Pan-American financial self-help resource. Bravo to all involved!

Congrats and thanks to the wiki editor Quebec and all contributors. Before posting for help or information on anything financial I always check finiki to see whether it has been covered.

For those who might be mildly interested, the software that runs our wiki, finiki, the Canadian financial wiki has been upgraded today to MediaWiki's current long-term support version.

Unfortunately with this release we've had to remove the ability for readers to provide feedback that was announced here, finiki - Provide your feedback, no account required!. The MediaWiki extension that provided the functionality is no longer stable or supported.

Alas not all is lost, because the wiki is a collaborative work that is primarily based on knowledge built up in the discussion forum, and is presented in an easy-to-navigate and searchable format. If you have the skills and knowledge to post here on FWF, then you are equally capable of helping improve and edit the wiki, check out Getting started for some ideas.

Yes this is a plea to those that might have some interest in editing the wiki. If you are interested, send me a PM and we will get your started.

Another year so let's Celebrated finiki's 14th birthday with changes and improvements.

One of the key improvements that we hope might inspire some additional editors is the introduction of the VisualEditor that does not require editors to learn wiki markup.

VisualEditor displays the text being edited almost as if it were already published. If you can create or edit a document with a word processor, then this editor will look and feel quite familiar and editing wiki articles will be nearly as easy.

Take a look at Wikipedia's Editing tutorial for step-by-step instructions on how easy this makes editing our wiki.

Here is what ChatGPT has to say about it:

Oh Finiki, a financial wiki so grand,
You've helped Canadians across the land,
For 14 years you've been a trusted friend,
Assisting us in managing our financial ends.

With your wealth of knowledge and guidance so true,
You've taught us how to budget, save and accrue,
Our finances managed with independence and care,
Thanks to your wisdom, we're prepared for whatever's out there.

Your advice on investing, insurance and debt,
Has helped us make the right choices, no regrets,
From RRSPs and TFSAs to RESPs and more,
You've shown us the way, and we're better off than before.

Your community of experts, so generous and kind,
Have shared their knowledge, so we all can unwind,
And make informed decisions with confidence and ease,
Knowing we have the support we need to succeed.

Oh Finiki, we celebrate your 14th year,
With gratitude and joy, and a heartfelt cheer,
Thank you for being there, a beacon of light,
Guiding us towards a future that's bright.

finiki has been helping Canadian investors for 15 years!!

Post by Peculiar_Investor »

finiki quietly celebrated 15 years of helping Canadian investors on February 14, 2024.

Every year finiki gets around a quarter million viewers and over a million pages viewed.

Here are some updates to the statistics about finiki:
  • there are currently 272 content pages,
  • there have been 22,382 page edits since finiki was set up
  • the number of Active users (editors) continues to hover in the 3-4 range although there are 47 registered users who can edit the wiki.
Thanks to anyone who has contributed to the wiki, either directly via editing the wiki or perhaps a forum post pointing out how to improve the wiki or otherwise inspiring one or more of the wiki editors to update or expand the wiki. We also have a dedicated forum topic ๐Ÿ’กSuggestion box for the wiki that can be used to provide any feedback on an article or suggest an idea for a new article.

A reminder from last year's update, One of the key improvements that we hope might inspire some additional editors is the introduction of the VisualEditor that does not require editors to learn wiki markup.

VisualEditor displays the text being edited almost as if it were already published. If you can create or edit a document with a word processor, then this editor will look and feel quite familiar and editing wiki articles will be nearly as easy.
