Re: finiki: The Financial Webring Wiki

Post by Peculiar_Investor »

Some interesting thoughts about editor engagement from Wikipedia, Suggesting tasks for new Wikipedians — Wikimedia blog. Wikipedia has launched an Editor engagement project after coming to realize that they need to make efforts to retain existing editors, as well as to engage new contributors to participate on Wikipedia.

Seems like the our wiki, finiki with its smallish group of core editors could benefit from Wikipedia's experiences and efforts. For those not already involved in editing the finiki, perhaps you might give some though to helping with the small problems that need fixing, see Help:Getting started - finiki, the Canadian financial Wiki and/or finiki:Maintenance - finiki, the Canadian financial Wiki for ideas.

The Wiki Editors group is now an open group, so any FWF member can choose to join (or resign) and have access to the finiki lounge forum. This forum is where editors hang out and discuss wiki wide issues and strategy. If you are interested, go to User Control Panel->Usergroups. Please note, joining the group does not create an account on finiki, wiki editing privileges have to be requested separately. Send me a PM or posting here is all it takes!

We are hopeful that this will spur further interest and contributions to help finiki continue to grow and improve!

Join the wiki - bi-annual 'pledge drive' for new editors

Post by Peculiar_Investor »

Hopefully everyone who visits the forum (members and guests alike) is aware that as well as this discussion forum, we also have a wiki aka finiki, the Canadian financial wiki.

As anyone who has tried to search the forum has found, finding the collective knowledge of the FWF membership can be difficult, if not downright impossible. That's partially the gap the wiki attempts to fill, to pull together the collective knowledge buried in many FWF posts over the years and present it in an easy-to-navigate and searchable format.

A small but dedicated group of FWF members have been finiki editors, but we can always use more. It isn't a full-time commitment, contribute if and when you can. It doesn't take any special skills to be a finiki editor. If you can edit posts on FWF and have learned about [quote], and [youtube], then you can easily pic ... ual limits for things like TFSA's, RRSP, etc.

If you have any interest at all, perhaps check out recent changes in the past month to get an idea of what wiki editors actually do. Or take a look at the post above for some information on peeking in on finiki editor's discussions to see what happens behind the scenes.

Please, your wiki needs you. If you are interested then a) post here that you'd like to become an editor or b) PM me that you'd like to become an editor and you'll be on your way to helping us grow and improve this valuable resource.

For those that might need a memory jog, check out the list of users, aka editors, are you already an editor? Have you forgotten your password?

Thanks.

Join the wiki! You'll learn a lot more useful stuff editing finiki than listening to BNN :)

Here is a page on Getting started for new editors. We promise it's not rocket science.

Here is a list of articles that need some maintenance. This is a good place to see where editors can help.
