Bylo and others, 10K, and beyond

Post by Peculiar_Investor »

Just noticed that our illustrious Bylo Selhi has surpassed 9000 posts to FWF. A few questions come to mind.

What is the level beyond Gold Ring and what number of posts are required?

Should we have a contest to guess the date/time of his 10,000th post? By my calculation it will occur in 112.9 days ( 6/6/08 ).

That's like trying to track moving correlations among stock markets. To wit: 934 posts to go / 8.28 posts a day = 112 days. My own personal Professor Kitzel suggests 85 days (May10), taking into account bylo's standard deviations. 8) And now I'm going to get black-swanned.

moving correlations
Not to mention a Sysop that has moved the above-gold goalposts at least once. (Sharp eyes may have detected an earlier Bylo promotion that later got removed.)

IIRC, the earlier promotion level was 3162 to 3163. That should give the math wizards a bit to chew on.

What? No math wizards have figured out 3162/3163 yet?

Ooops......I tuned in because, from the thread title, I thought Bylo had entered a 10K run, and was about to wish him well.

Correct! (I put brackets in at 10, 100, 1000, 5000, and 10000 originally; Norbert changed the 5000 to 3163. I don't know what they are currently set at and will find out with the rest of you. )

Good quiz :). Its easier for me to visualize by thinking of it as half of a log cycle 10^3.5=3162.28

I thought he was running a race as well, but then again, I recently started running again so I am a little bit obsessed with it at the moment.

Instead of starting a new self-congratulatory thread, let me use this one to mark my 2k message and thank everybody who has taught me a thing or too. It was nice being around, hope you did not find my presence (too) annoying.

Meanwhile, I'm very happy to see that overnight I've been lapped by Bruce.

Another question to ask is how much has Bylo and his forum and his website saved you?

I'm not a finance professional, but I'm pretty sure that his Canada-specific advice has saved me tens of thousands of dollars over the past few years just in mutual fund MERs alone. I'm glad to contribute back, and we all should be proud that we have the depth of contribution that comes from the likes of Bylo and others. Its definitely improved my standard of living, and that of many people around me, that's for sure.

Those are nice words pitz, and I second your appreciation for Bylo's efforts and particular his kind and patient "virtual" demeanour in helping me to learn how to keep more of my invested money for myself. There are many others deserving of this gratitude (albeit not approaching 10,000 posts) including Norbert, Adrian2, Shakespeare, DavidR, Icarus, AltaRed, ghariton, george$, brucecohen (and others), and you too pitz. Thank you all!

Well it appears that the answer is Diamond Ring at 10,000!! Congrats Bylo, not only for the quantity but also for the incredible quality of each of these posts.
