Common Acronyms at FWF
This is an organized digest of another thread which has been deleted. This thread will be left open for posting so that additions may be suggested by forum members. Incorporation of suggestions is at the discretion of the moderators and, unlike other parts of the forum, messages with suggestions will be deleted (after moderator review) to keep this thread easy to read.

DCF [Model] - discounted cash flow [Model]
DD - due diligence
DRIP - dividend reinvestment plan
DSC - Deferred Sales Charge
EMH - efficient market hypothesis
ETF - exchange traded fund
FCF - free cash flow
IRS - Internal Revenue Service, the taxman in the United States
MER - management expense ratio: the management and administrative costs of operating a mutual fund as a percentage of average total assets.
P/E - price/earnings
P/B - price/book
P/CF - price/cash flow
P/S - price/sales
ROC - return on capital
ROE - return on equity
ROI - return on investment
TER - total expense ratio
YTM, YTW. YTC, YTP - yield to maturity, yield to worst, yield to call, yield to put

BMOIL - BMO Investorline, a discount broker
CDIC - Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation
CMHC - Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the federal government's mortgage insurer
CPP - Canada Pension Plan, a contributory government pension
CRA / CCRA - Canada Revenue Agency, the taxman in Canada
CUDGC - Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation of Manitoba
GIC - guaranteed investment certificate, the equivalent of a certificate of deposit (CD) in the US
GIS - Guaranteed Income Supplement, a pension top-up for low income seniors

DRASP: TransAlta's unique name for their DRIP + SPP
DRIPper: A person who actively uses DRIPs (dividend reinvestment plans) with accompaning SPPs (stock purchase plans).
DRIP (to a DRIPper): By default DRIPpers assume an SPP is included when talking about DRIPs. When a DRIPper says "DRIP" they mean "DRIP + SPP".This is an important distinction when talking to brokers or investor relations who do not make the distinction or newcomers.
OCP: Optional cash payment - the money sent to a DRIP's SPP.
ABW: Automatic Bank Withdrawal
ACH: Automatic Clearinghouse - the US term for ABW
Broker: The person who doesn't get a commission from a DRIPper
