Real Estate in Puerto Rico

Post by Flaccidsteele »

Has anyone visited San Juan, Puerto Rico or own real estate there?

There's a big sale on Puerto Rican homes

John Paulson: Why I put billions in Puerto Rico
Despite Puerto Rico's massive debt crisis, Paulson sees big profits ahead. He has plowed "quite a bit" -- an estimated $1.5 billion -- of his personal wealth into buying hotels, a resort and office buildings on the island.

(snip)

At the summit, Paulson clarified that most of these investments have been personal. They are not in the Paulson & Co. real estate funds.

Wow flights to San Juan are surprisingly reasonable. Spoke with a few brokers and investors in PR. Even called the two hotels owned by John Paulson re: resale units. Interesting environment. At the very least the trip will be a nice vacation.

edit: I guess cost of flights to PR are falling...

How stable is the government? How likely is it to remain stable?

Who'll manage the property while you're away? Does insurance work the way you think it will? What happens if they decide to kick out all the foreigners?

Different countries operate differently than Canada...

As a U.S. territory it will remain as stable as the U.S. government.

Thanks for this. I appreciate all the help I can get. Will definitely look into these issues before doing anything.

If they kick out all non-American citizens that would be a concern for all my U.S. properties.

If anything else comes to mind please post here. Thanks again.

If trump becomes president, you never know what can happen.

50-50 good vs bad since we 'never know'.

I'll probably just stick to focusing on things that I have a modicum of control over.

Not that I have any say in the matter, but I think I would like to experience Trump as POTUS.

I didn't end up buying any property in PR. Continued to buy in other parts of the US. Laziness is the only reason that I can give.
