IShares Canada Changes Listing Venue for Some ETFs

Post by DenisD »

Earlier this week, I noticed that one of my Google spreadsheets was returning a zero price for some ETFs. A check of the iShares website turned up this:

https://www.blackrock.com/ca/individual ... -06-en.pdf
As previously announced on September 13, 2016, BlackRock ... intends to change the listing venue from the Toronto Stock Exchange (“TSX”) to the Aequitas NEO Exchange (“NEO”) for the common units and advisor class units (collectively, the “Units”) of the following iShares Funds:
Looks like they're changing all of the old Claymore ETFs. Not sure why. Maybe they're trying to put pressure on the TSX to reduce fees. Or this is a trial balloon before changing all of their ETFs.

Anyway, I've waited a few days for things to stabilize. Looks like I can get quotes at my brokers and at GlobeInvestor. This morning, I couldn't submit orders on the android apps for TDDI and RBCDI. Will try again next week.

Still haven't figured out how to get quotes at Yahoo! or Google Finance. It may not be possible. :(

I saw a press release headline from BMO today that they're also putting some ETFs on that exchange. In their case they seem to be new ETFs, investing in US Treasuries.

Looks like they may have free real-time level II quotes:

In terms of Google Sheets, the Aequitas web site appears to retrieve prices from an API and I can't figure out its workings enough to come up with a syntax.

However now that the Globe has NEO quotes you could try and concoct an IMPORTXML command for this.

EDIT: Haha! I figured one out that works:
=importxml("http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-in ... ?q=CIE-NLB","(//td[@class='info-value last-price'])[1]/h2/text()")
So this loads the page and finds the first table cell marked as "info-value last-price", finds the h2 heading element inside it, and gives the output text.

Adjust the URL as necessary for different ETFs.

Thanks QAM. I'll have to try that tonight.

Looks like I won't be getting quotes directly from Google any time soon. Received the following reply to my email from NEO:
Thank you for your market data inquiry. I can confirm that we have engaged Google Finance with respect to making NEO Exchange market data available on their platform, but they have been less than responsive. Most global data vendors do currently support NEO data. If you are inclined, please feel free to contact them directly with your request, as there are no applicable fees for them to make NEO data available.

In the mean-time, we do have real-time Canadian quotes on our Website including all of our uniquely traded NEO listed securities: https://aequitasneoexchange.com/en/market-activity . In addition we are exploring making a spreadsheet utility available.
