Marsh & McLennan increases dividend from 34 cents per quarter to 37.5

Since going public in the early 60's, MMC has increased its dividend every year for 41 consecutive years, a record matched by only 12 other companies traded publicly in the United States. It was only by a technicality that they were not on the Dividend Aristocrats list.

In 2004, it got into the crosshairs of Eliot Spitzer, a rising Democrat, who went on a vendetta against the company and its founder.
Mr. Spitzer, after being involved as client #9 in a prostitution scandal, ended his political hopes a few years later.
MMC cut its dividend in half during this debacle, from 34 cents to 17, and a couple of years later resumed its annual hikes.

Out of curiousity, why would anyone in Canada ever buy a US domiciled REIT? The tax issues (like MLPs) are disadvantageous.

Wouldn't that be a moot point in an RRSP/ RRIF?

As I understand it, there is some US tax leakage on REITs and MLPs that cannot be recovered even in a RRSP/RRIF. I suppose if someone is willing to give that up...then so be it. However, that is off-topic for this thread...Sorry I brought it up.

Sorry for continuing off-topic, but I don't think the above applies to US REITs, does it?

AltaRed's question, which sparked this tangent, was about US REIT's specifically.
