Last Trading Settlement Day of the Year

Post by Shakespeare »

So Christmas is on Friday and the TSX will be closed on Monday in lieu of Boxing Day. That means there will only be 3 trading days between Christmas and New Years. So, that means that the last trading day for TSX T+3 settlement (stocks and bonds) is Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, right? So you have to do any tax loss selling before Christmas this year.

Reminder that T+3 trades (stocks and bonds) have to be done this week for 2009 settlement. Options are T+1 and can be traded for 2009 settlement next week.

And if anyone cares, Forex trades settle T+2, except USD/CAD which is T+1. But both countries can't have a holiday.
Here's a list of foregin bank holidays.

Early distant warning that starting in Q3 2017 the Canadian (and US) investment market is moving to a T+2 settlement cycle.

The Canadian Capital Markets Association (CCMA) noticed our finiki page, Settlement - finiki, the Canadian financial wiki, and notified us of the upcoming change.
Hello, the Canadian investment market is moving to shorten the settlement cycle for currently T+3-settling securities (equities, long-term debt and many mutual funds) to T+2, with the United States, next year on September 5, 2017. Could you add a note to this effect to the page you have on Settlement (http://www.finiki.org/wiki/Settlement) and cross-reference the links below?

The finiki page will be updated in due course to reflect the change.

Please enter a valid "Good 'til date" on all orders.
