Minimum time for claiming moving expenses?

Post by scorpionman »

If you are self-employed or work for a CCPC and move either to another country or in Canada is there a minimum time that you must be there to claim moving expenses? For example, on the T1M form it says you can claim moving expenses between 2 locations outside canada (I found this quite surprising) if you are still considered a factual resident of Canada - does this mean though that you must establish residency in the new location (usually minimum 6 months) while still maintaining your Canadian residency or this deduction covers shorter term relocations? Wondering if anyone in this situation might know the conservative rules for using this deduction.
