Re: Things to worry about
Since as long as I can remember I've never been a worrier. Mostly because there are so very few things to actually worry about. I became even less of of worrier once I realized that during times of extreme pessimism I could actually afford to buy some cool stuff.

I thought you did, sorry if I misunderstood.it's not as if I painted a rosy picture in that posting.
Loss of life is the biggest loss, one can experience, but let's stick to the finance here
Again, having seen what I have and having studied my family history, I am a pessimist.
Most people collecting their inflation adjusted pensions or living off steady stream of dividends would be 'natural' optimists. Everyone has his/hers biases.

You want something to worry about? I'm worried about half my money sitting in bonds that are pretty much guaranteed to provide negative real returns for the next 5-10 years. This isn't ballast, it's throwing a drowning man an anchor.

I don't really worry about financial things. More concerned with health issues and the weather

According to polls, the "leave" camp is ahead in the Brexit campaign. The market isn't too happy about it and VDU (which I own) is taking a beating.

Maybe that, plus Trump, will make Canada look good.

BBC has forecast results: UK to leave the EU.
The GBP is taking a beating. Going to be a rough day on the markets tomorrow.
The referendum in not binding. Parliament has to repeal the law and most MPs are in favour of remaining. Maybe Cameron will call an election...

I am surprised they called it with only about 320 out of 382 polls reporting. But maybe the gurus know the remaining polls can't swing 52/48 to 50/50.

Luckily SP(ES U6) has a 5% overnight limit. I saw it locked at 1999, but I can't believe it's traded off that. No worries, limits gone at the open. The 20% limit takes it down to 1682.gsp_ wrote:FTSE 100 futures down 10%, DAX futures down 9.5%.

Re: Things to worry about
I am disappointed. As the end of the quarter was approaching I was looking forward to a very positive portfolio update. Well, probably not.
That been said, savers will do fine, speculators will reap what they have sown, investors will receive a decent wallop though nothing more than they can bear.
At the end of the day, millennials will still want to renew their cell phones (go BCE go!), there will still be lineups at the interac machines (go Banks go!) and cars will still be on the roads (no, I will not sell my O&G and my pipelines).
Being fully invested, I cannot take advantage of the current situation. To those who have cash: "More power to you!"

I doubt it. I have been fully invested every other time we were visited by a Black Swan and I'm still here to talk about it.StuBee wrote:

Hmm. I wonder if a real disaster here with this protectionist vote might just give our U.S. friends pause with regards to Mr. Trump?kcowan wrote:Trump to visit the UK tomorrow looking for more free press coverage...Shakespeare wrote:Now all we need is Trump.

Sounds like a rational thought. But.... it could encourage fence sitting knuckle draggers to join the revolution and tear something down and give it to the man. Unfortunately were the man.

The sky is not falling. The Canadian market is recovering fairly quickly although still down somewhat. USA down more presumably because of larger multinational exposure to Europe. European markets down a lot because the EU now has to make major reforms if it is going to survive.
Interesting that the immigrant communities in England voted overwhelmingly to leave. The Indian and Asian communities have been hit hard by EU immigration because it has cut deeply into their share of the immigrant market. There has been little or no immigration from Asia or India for years.
Haven't bought or sold anything. I'm becoming a very lazy investor........

Re: Things to worry about
Saw an interesting set of bar graphs on the Irish Times, showing the relative ages of remain voters vs leave voters. Remain voters were the young, who had 50+ years to live with their choice, while the leave voters were predominantly the aged, with a short number of years to live with the results of their vote.
Could be an interesting new component for Canadian voter reform, age weighted votes anyone?
