Tontines

Post by gaspr »

I recently read Moshe Milevsky's fascinating book "King William's Tontine". It seems that tontines may provide a way to access "mortality credits" much more efficiently than traditional annuities. Maybe it is an idea who's time has come...again? Here is an excellent summary of the book and the idea from Michael Kitces;

Check it out.

Looks interesting, thanks. I'll pick it up at the Library.

Or you could just watch The Wrong Box, David. It's a highly entertaining British comedy from the sixties about two brothers who are the last members of the tontine and who both want the entire proceeds.

It was an all-star affair: Peter Sellers Ralph Richardson, Tony Hancock, Michael Caine, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. This scene clearly describes the purpose of a tontine: http://www.tcm.com/mediaroom/video/2429 ... ntine.html
