Welcome to finiki - The Do-It-Yourself Financial Webring Wiki.
As this forum has grown larger and more complex, it becomes increasingly difficult to find authoritative information. There has been some consolidation of similar type threads into single threads but that just leads to huge threads. Because of the chatty nature of forums, threads contain huge numbers of off-topic posts which make mining for gold difficult.
Just now I simply wanted to find all threads that might be specific to value investing . Specifically I wanted to search for all threads with value in the thread title. I could not do it. It seems I must also include all threads with value in the message. This returned far too many candidates. Is this true or am I missing something?
The WB find feature of searching on thread titles was quite useful. Is the equivalent not available here?
Since the move of the site, my search for new posts works first time but when I return to the search screen, it will refresh the search and say there are no new topics even though I am only part way through viewing the list of new posts.
Many other boards use this same software and they behave properly. Could this be a setting that got messed up with the site move? Thanks.
The appearance of the Who is Online section at the bottom of the front page has been changed.
The number of posts made in the last 24 hours and the number of topics they were made in has been added for all to see. Worthwhile or useless clutter?
A list of the members who have been online in the last 24 hours has been added in a subsection, visible only by members when logged in. Worthwhile or useless clutter?
Why is it that I have to sign in to read the soap Box section but not the others???? Also I noticed that my name hardly ever shows up as browsing a section even though I am logged in. Not really a problem just curious.
This came up for me when trying to get to a certain location in the member list. I was trying to get somewhere in the middle but I'm only allowed to advance one page at a time once I get going. Kind of a slow way to go through many pages. For example, if I am at page 10 I only have the option of going to page 11, no option to go to page 12 directly. Can the range be expanded so I could go through the pages something like 3, 6, 9, 12 rather than...
triple in value in the next few months (November or December should be around 2).
I have been holding this company for 5 years now and although it's been mostly down, if we look at the share price, several elements have been very positive.
• They bought three companies (Linmor, Network Performance Services and Network Guidance)
• They bought a Security Business unit from IBM that will bring 15 million dollars more in revenue in the next 30...
Normally, I let the one-off comments pass. When there starts to be piling on, I intervene. Recently, there have been a number of personal shots, more or less, at blonde from an increasing number of people. Regardless of what you may feel about what s/he posts, taking personal shots is not acceptable here. If you don't want to read someone's posts, use the ignore button rather than taking shots.
: The first five posts in this thread were split out of ].
Further to the offline discussion about the TWB archives, it appears the collective decision is that the 10,000 threads published in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 have no current value and are therefore not worth preserving.
Is being a newbie here is somewhat trendy as I got more jokes as a response rather a serious advice...
:?: :?: :?:
Of course excluding those who are serious about helping new investors..
You’re making the mistake of assuming all DIY are the same as the very few that have the right stuff to be successful DIY. The others are making a complete mess of their investments.
Smelly, I guess your conclusion is that everyone, aside from the very few who have the right stuff, should have a financial advisor. But this statement by itself is not credible coming from you because of your obvious bias. The point I was making earlier is that...
People want to cover up and forget their past mistakes and sins and the bad feelings associated with them. Unfortunately this over-compensation doesn't permit them to see the present reality for what it is.
The following posts were removed from another thread . Phrases like poised to triple in value and want to make good money , with no attempts at justification, do not serve the educational purpose of this forum and are a violation of the Terms of Service that every member has agreed to.

Hi,
This is my first post here but it is an interesting one. I have been accumulating this stock for 5 years now...
When one is ON the FWF web site, on DialUp  , and disconnects whether by design, by telco, or what, ALL current Threads at FWF will be marked as Read when one returns. I've seen this many times.
This morning when I clicked on a few links in posts it showed a smaller page within the same page instead of the full page that I'm used to. Is this my computer? If so how can I fix it?
For the past week or so, my login doesn't stick even though I make sure to tick off the box to stay logged in on this computer. This is all the forums, not just soap box.
Not sure if anyone noticed, or if it is now a requirement, missed any announcement.
I have tried to access a couple of different forums without login in, and no problem (view only). Soapbox no such luck. Not that i mind logging in, just one extra step, when all i have time to do is look.
No person shall transmit the result or purported result of the vote in an electoral district to the public in another electoral district before the close of all of the polling stations in that other electoral district.
No one may post at FWF results or links to results before 10 p.m. EST. Even though the Act doesn't apply to websites or broadcasters outside of Canada & some American blog may post...
I don't think your private mesage to me should have accused me of poking marianne, I have never met the lady, although I am sure you meant it in a figurative sense?, and I think Marianne can look after herself, if she doesn't like my comments, the lady makes her living with words, I am sure she can defend herself.
I will however apologise to Marianne if she took offence, I just have a problem with Americans criticising my City of Toronto and my...
A few minutes ago, while replying to feeonly I received the following error message:
Failed sending email :: PHP ::

I had two windows open at the time, and was using the second to get a link to a post. Preview worked. Submit gave the error message, but did in fact submit
When I'm signed on as moderator, I get to see, among other things, those who are signed on in hidden mode. Why do folks choose to log on in hidden mode? Is there a good reason for being hidden from other members who are logged on? Or is it a case of others do it so I guess I will too ?
We're a pretty free and flexible forum but we do try to manage the forum in such a way that discussion is encouraged. So far that has involved little more than asking posters to cease and desist from specific behaviour in a specific thread.
While all four of us are in varying degrees critical of some industry practices, we try to maintain a balance. I'm dropping you this note because I am concerned...
We have peace in our time. Friendships that run deep may hit a rocky patch but the strength of the friendship and some time often leads to healing. Jon has been invited to participate at the Financial Webring Forum (FWF) and has accepted.
All five of us believe that Canadian investors will be better served by one high quality financial discussion board instead of a half-split half-overlapping community reading and posting...
This is my first post here and as such I do not have the credibility you likely seek. So I'll just lay out the facts.
I am a rep for several charitable gifting arrangements.
I can tell you that since I discovered the FACTS about Global Learning, GLGI, that I am now recommending it over all others. I believe it to be the most SOLID, LEGAL and Comprehensive tax mitigation product out there. WHY? They have taken out all of the potential CRA...
I note that the numbers at the bottom of the screen speak to our success. We, as a community, are now at almost 500 registered users (497) and 20,000 postsings (20,061). Clearly there is both perceived and real value in the FWR.
Given our age as a forum I think that is impressive. My hat is off to the founders and their postings.
Side comment for Yielder only: Gawd, I hate it when the forum moderator joins in a thread and is argumentative, combative and makes unfounded assumptions. It ads nothing to the discussion and potentially your role as moderator may lend undue and unwarranted credence to your personal opinion.
You are not an advisor. If your livelihood potentially depended on this issue you would not be so quick to dismiss a legitimate concern or unjustly...
To facilitate the importing of threads from TWB into FWF, there will be a bulk setup of ID's at FWF for all of those individuals who posted in either the WEALTH or ASK/FIND AN ADVISOR forums who do not already have an account at FWF. If any of you wish to activate those ID's at FWF, simply email us with the email that you used at TWB2. We'll match it and activate your account.
About 200 ID's will be created at FWF tonight, matching as best we...
I don't feel bad at all about what happened to the Germans after the war ...
Gummy's contention about the mass starvation of German POWs put forward by his pseudo-historian Bacque has been thoroughly demolished by the Stephen Ambrose article supplied by Gus.
In short, Mr. Bacque is wrong on every major charge and nearly all his minor ones. Eisenhower was not a Hitler, he did not run death camps, German prisoners did not die by the hundreds...
