Mainly because advertised pricing is double what I pay with Fido. However the RFD link you shared sounds interesting if Im willing to take the time to play the Rogers "game". Thanks Bylo, will check it out.Bylo Selhi wrote: ↑26 Dec 2023 22:02
Why not Robbers and bHell? After all it's the former's infrastructure on which your Fido runs.

Home internet providers - 2024
I found out today that Fido (Ontario) is no longer offering internet services for new customers. (Existing customers continue to have access to service)
Several of my family members use Fido, however over the next few months our "promo" rates ($39/mth) end and unless we are offered promo extensions, we expect to see our rates double.
Can anyone recommend a reputable/reliable alternative provider (other than Rogers and Bell) worth considering in Ontario?

Re: TD Direct Investing (was Waterhouse) Service
My auto-withdrawal is set for Nov 15. I don't remember how that was set. Something strange is going on with the destination account for my withdrawal. Last year I know the RRIF withdrawal went into my non-registered TDDI account. This year I noticed it says "Cheque" so I called TDDI and asked if that meant my chequing account or if they would issue a cheque. The rep said they would print a cheque and mail it to me. :( I said no, change it back to my non-reg account, which he did, and that's where the RRIF withdrawal went. Now it is back to saying the withdrawal destination is"Cheque". Does anyone else have "Cheque" for their RRIF withdrawal destination and if so does it go into their chequing account or does a...

Re: TD Direct Investing (was Waterhouse) Service
The family member has had auto-RIF withdrawal set on Dec 30 for several years.
It always auto-withdraws on Dec 30, and cash deposit appears at TDCT the next business day. There has never been any issue with this.
In the rare event she wants to withdraw all (or a portion) early, she simply instructs them and they withdraw on that morning and cash appears at TDCT the next business day.
Coincidentally, selecting Dec 30 allows her account to participate in the (un-guaranteed) annual Santa Claus rally.

Several family members have been with WST for 2 years and are happy.
I will wait for the iPhone promo to end before I make any move to WS.
I recall in May-July they were offering a flat 0.8% cash bribe for $500k accounts (without the iPhone distraction) and possibly a higher % if you call in with larger accounts. Will strongly consider making my move to WST once they revive that offer.

Re: 2023 Estimated and actual non-cash (re-invested) ETF distributions
Sorry, I've made it more complicated than it needs to be.
I have owned XSP for years in my RRSP (Taxes a non-issue)
After investigation, I noted the 2022 year end distribution was announced and distributed as a "cash" distribution.
For 2023 year end however Blackrock announced it would be a "non-cash" distribution.
I'm not smart enough to understand why they would make this year-over-year change

Re: 2023 Estimated and actual non-cash (re-invested) ETF distributions
Then why did I receive an actual cash distribution for last year end paid on Jan 5th? (Blackrock press release language for my ETF is identical YoY)AltaRed wrote: ↑07 Dec 2023 21:46 The press releases seem clear enough to me. Re-invested non-cash (capital gains) distributions are not paid out in cash. They are re-invested in a reverse stock split that increases ACB, which is what makes them 'phantom, and what this thread is about.
IIRC, they are always paid out on about the last business day of the year.
Cash distributions are the usual ones paid out every quarter, monthly, etc. They are not called re-invested distributions.

The language always confuses me. It reads like "phantom" non-cash distributions, however, Blackrock's language is identical to last years press release where we received cash distributions.gaspr wrote: ↑23 Nov 2023 12:52 Blackrock Canada press release
