But only for the first three days of a trip. And there are all the CC insurance exclusions. For those who travel long and/or need broader coverage the value is zero, even before they reach 75.

Re: Printers
What are the factors which have caused you all to move to laser printers ? I come to my extreme dislike of inkjet printers and love of laser printers legitimately. Back in the dark and distant past (1980s) all the printers in my office were Epson FX-80 dot-matrix or similar. One was loud and distracting. Two were a loud din and annoying. Three seemingly approached the threshold of pain and revolting. People complained loudly ( very loudly in order to be heard over those damn printers.) Then HP announced the first inkjet printer, the ThinkJet. We replaced our fleet of dot-matrix with this new model. The inkjets were barely audible above ambient levels and peace returned to the office. Then as the PC guy I got to deal with all the users who ...

Yabbut, that $90 is likely to be twice as much as you'd pay some of the flanker brands like Public or Lucky for similar service. In that case the actual benefit of the R/F/S bonus is, um, "greatly exaggerated."
In my case I'm paying F ~$20/month for 3 data only lines, at least two of which I'll terminate in December when the discounts end. So even if I remain in the R/F/S fold I'll be accruing credits at a much faster rate than I can use them.

Now I can't say whether the average Malaysian bank is more or less rapacious than CIBC when it comes to FX I'm 99.99% sure the DCC offer will be worse than the standard North American bank's 2.5% vig. This "service" is usually provided by third parties. Why would a Malaysian bank allow them on their system in order to undercut that bank's FX fee? See Dynamic currency conversion Dynamic currency conversion (DCC) or cardholder preferred currency (CPC) is a process whereby the amount of a credit card transaction is converted at the point of sale, ATM or internet to the currency of the card's country of issue. Worst case you file a T1Adj and maybe pay a bit more in taxes (or maybe get a somewhat larger refund.)
At least you have all your T-slips. We're still waiting for a T3 for our one remaining legacy ETF (XIU.)

From what I can see, Atlantic Money can only send GBP or EUR. So unless you have a source of income in those currencies it's not of much use to Canadians. Unless I'm missing something how do you use AM to convert CAD into GBP or EU?
And if you have some GBP/EUR already, how do you set up an account from Canada, send that currency to AM in order to convert it CAD?

Unfortunately Revolut is not an option for most of us. Revolut no longer operates in Canada so it's no longer possible to get their accounts and cards here. Even those of us who once had them have had our service terminated. You need to be a UK/EU resident with UK/EU address, etc. to get a card now.rocketboss wrote: ↑22 Mar 2024 10:28 I have both Wise(canada) and Revolut(UK). I do uk-cad coversion quite regularly. It works out slightly cheaper with Revolut than Wise...almost always.

My mom worked with Dying With Dignity to advocate for MAID. Sadly she died before the legislation was enacted. More sadly she would have greatly benefited from it, had MAID been an option.
I've heard the same thing. The "correct" dosage of opiates is a fine line between pain relief and cessation of breathing. Some doctors are more willing to "err" on the side of the terminal patient.Anecdotally, some doctors have been "helping" terminally ill patients for some years now. But none of the ones I know would speak openly about it.

There are several free fax services that will let you upload documents and fax them for you. The free limit is based on number of pages and/or number of faxes, both of which won't affect most individuals.brucecohen wrote: ↑21 Mar 2024 23:26 I use fax to send notes to my family doctor whose clinic doesn't have an email address for patients to use. Faxing is easier, quicker and more reliable than dictating a message to the receptionist. The clinic receives the fax digitally and their system seems to automatically route it to doctor.
From my bookmarks (haven't used these in some time):

I would go one step further and ask in the NoO for the CRA to cite the ITA verbiage that they're relying on to reject the claim. Let them do the digging for you. And if they don't respond you've got a bit more ammo should this escalate. You can't "fight" a law if they can't cite it.Peculiar_Investor wrote: ↑19 Mar 2024 23:48I would file a reply (Notice of Objection? again) and specifically point to their website example as you have done things correctly and the income should not be attributed to you.Mouly wrote: ↑19 Mar 2024 22:53 This year for the first time my objection is rejected. I interpret the bolded words to mean that 99.9% of the time they'll accept images. The 0.1% is wiggle room to play the paper card when the taxpayer gives them attitude, CRA suspects the image has been doctored or "enhanced," there's a total eclipse of the sun at the same time there's a blue moon, etc.CRA wrote: Generally, you must keep originals of your paper documents. Brother has one advantage over Canon in that OEM toner cartridges are much cheaper.
Then again I've been using generic cartridges in laser printers going back to the days when you would buy toner in bottles, drill a hole in the original cartridge, pour the new toner in and then slap some tape over the hole. Rinse and repeat when needed.
These days the no-name cartridges off Amazon or eBay with good seller ratings and good reviews work well 99% of the time. The one time there was a problem the seller just sent me another cartridge and let me dispose of the first one, i.e. no need to return.

U.S. government sues Apple for smartphone antitrust violations The U.S. Justice Department on Thursday announced a sweeping antitrust lawsuit against Apple, accusing the tech giant of "unlawful exclusionary behaviour" by engineering an illegal monopoly in smartphones that boxes out competitors and stifles innovation. The lawsuit, filed in federal court in New Jersey, alleges that Apple has monopoly power in the smartphone market and uses its control over the iPhone to "engage in a broad, sustained, and illegal course of conduct." The lawsuit — which was also filed with attorneys general from 15 states as well as D.C. — takes direct aim at the digital fortress that Apple Inc., based in Cupertino, Calif., has assiduously ...

Even if you do a Sell on MMF/HISA at the same time to cover, it will take a day for the funds to arrive in the cash portion of the account. TD charges a day's interest on that "loan" even if the GIC you buy is issued by TD and your funds were always at TD.(Of course it will never happen.)
Perhaps it was too late in the day when selling the MMF/HISA and thus that took two days to settle. In any case, the warning is to be careful and ideally have enough cash in the account to cover the GIC purchase.

IMO FWIW if any of the big-5 got into so much trouble that even Ottawa couldn't save them we'd all be in such a serious crisis that worrying about our GICs would be well down the list below personal safety, food, water, shelter, etc.

That's what I did. TD already had the death certificate, will, etc. because they held other accounts. I also had other accounts with TD, was also the executor and was already known to the branch. That probably helped too.

Quote from Bylo, 2011 Sat Mar 05, 2011 11:55 am "You just missed out on Canon ImageCLASS MF4350d Monochrome Laser 4-in-1 • Valid Feb 16 -22, 2011 for $89.91." As a result of one of Bylo’s suggestions I bought a Canon image Class printer. It’s still working like a charm some 14 years later. My daughter is now looking for a similar laser printer. She would prefer something with a smaller footprint but I suspect in the end price and quality will rule over all. Would appreciate any suggestions? OTOH my parents, "tolerated the hassle" by flying in the front of the plane, going with groups like Senior Tours who catered to seniors, etc.skinnyinvestor wrote: ↑20 Mar 2024 13:48 My inlaws are in their early 70s and used to travel quite a bit prior to COVID. Then in their 90s, even though they still wanted to travel and still had the financial means to do it, they no longer had the physical ability.
Everyone's situation is different.

I was JTWROS on my parents' TD Plan 60 account (free everything, no minimum balance.) By the time I turned 60 the Plan 60 was no longer available but "grandfathered" for existing customers. So when my parents died I "inherited" both accounts and use them to this day (over a decade) without any issues with TD.nice4 wrote: ↑20 Mar 2024 12:50 Question is
- Does this senior BMO account still legally can be used by my sister (she is over 60 year old too) just like her own BMO senior account or,
- It must remove my mother's name from the account or,
- Mother's account must close and sister must open a new account for her own use ?
I would call BMO and ask them if they operate the same way.
