Like others here I am not rushing to sell my TC shares despite only having a small CG at these prices. However will evaluate going forward.

Climate Change, the US Legal system and Other Precedences
Saw a very interesting interview on Christianne Amanpour & Co on PBS a couple of days ago. The US being a very litiginous society who knows where this will go. Climate change is a crime Before you dismiss this out of hand think back 40+ years and the tobacco industry. Nevertheless these corporations always manage to insulate themselves from major economic consequences eg Philip Morris and now their dominance of the packaged food industry, Kraft, General foods etc, The Sacklers and Opioids. The Sacklers are not lining up at the food bank. I am sure that the oil industry even if there are legal consquences will find a way with alternative investments to prosper. Disclosure: Before retiring I earned my living as an engineer in the oil indu...

Re: High interest savings, GICs and MMFs (2023)
Re Tangerine Rate Lottery - don't remember who coined this phrase or the two step. I got fed up with Tang long ago waiting till the end of a promo period and then begging cap in hand for a continuation. My approach has been to accept a promo offer if good enough and then at the end just transfer the lot out. I just finished a promo which was extended once for 4 months at 5% ending July 31. When I called to transfer the 6 figure amount out this week I was asked if the reason I was transferring was the end of the period because they could make me a new offer. I was non committal and told them just to make the transfer. They sowed the seeds for their clients to react this way and I suspect I am not the only one. I was a client of their former ...

I agree with GreatLaker and leoc2 two previous posters. Updating my 3 ETFs in my non registered account once a year for ROC and ACB with information from my broker website is not exactly rocket science. VBAL is in my registered account and does not require the treatment.

Considering the deficiencies identified so far in Investorline 2.0, I wonder if Carrick would now give BMOIL a B+ ranking.

The info I am looking for is indeed under 'Move Money' Manage accounts my RIF and LIF ELECTED ANNUAL PAYMENT and dates and payment.
As fireseeker says it is not intuitive.
IF IT IS NOT BROKEN, DON"T FIX IT.

Re: What tax software to use?
I have used StudioTax since 2010 including the last two years when they have required a subscription. I also use TaxFreeway as a check which you can run for free but not file. I like the UI on TaxFreeway as you get slips and forms like the ones that are sent to you. Both these programs do a good job in my estimation and are bargain priced. Also I like the fact that all the files and information are resident on your computer. In neither case do I use the CRA's feature of downloading T slips as I do not trust it.

Re: Retirement Planning Advice
In 2012 as a result of a change in LIF legislation Ontario, I was able to transfer 50% of my LIF to my RIF. This left me with a RIF and a smaller LIF. The rules for withdrawing from the LIF are similar to a RIF. i.e. over 65 there is a mandatory withdrawal governed by the same factors. HOWEVER, unlike the RIF, there is also a maximum actuarially determined each year. I have been withdrawing the minimum each year from both but as I get older do not need the total minimum each year. Also I recently converted my RIF to a new RIF based on my partner's younger age. I would like to transfer some more of my LIF to my RIF and recently read of this strategy which claims that the DELTA $s MAXIMUM - MINIMUM each year can be transferred to the RIF. Gra...

Re: High interest savings, GICs and MMFs (2022) - rates
After ignoring Tangerine for most of the year and letting them use my 0.01 in the account, they sent me an email offering 5% until April 30 2023.
My days of calling them at the end of a promotion ended some time ago. I just transfer the money elsewhere. I activated the offer and will have to decide if I want the hassle of transferring funds around.
