Re: Record Keeping Practices: Scanned/Digital?
I checked Acceptable format, imaging paper documents and backing up electronic files - Canada.ca and they say What is imaging? Generally, you must keep originals of your paper documents. However, you can produce electronic images of these documents, known as imaging. The images can be kept in electronic files, on microfiche or on microfilm. Imaging a paper supporting document When producing an image of a paper document, you must make sure: it is an accurate reproduction with the intention of it taking the place of the paper document it gives the same information as the paper document the significant details of the image are not obscured because of limitations in resolution, tonality or hue. I have no personal knowledge on this subject however Google turned up How to File a T2125 Form | Ownr Blog
Ownr Blog wrote:When is the filing deadline for T2125 forms?
If you are self-employed, your T1 form and T2125 is due by June 15. That said, most professionals recommend you file your taxes prior to the April 30 deadline, because you will be charged interest on any taxes you owe starting April 30.

Re: T+1 Settlement is Coming! On May 28, 2024
Ultimately this change will require understanding your discount brokerage timing rules and might require some "common" trading practices to be adapted as a result of T+1 settlement.
I have complete faith that the FWF crowd will have figured out and documented all the nuances that will need to be made to these "common" trading practices.
I'm not too worried about this as the positives of T+1 seem to me to outweigh the potential negatives. In the grand scheme of things having to potentially plan one day ahead when making trades is inconsequential in the long run.

There is also a somewhat older topic wireless all-in-one printer.
I have been very satisfied with this printer.
A number of years back I switched from a MF4150 to the Canon imageCLASS MF269dw | Black & White Multifunction Printer, mostly for the support of wireless connectivity and fact that the imageCLASS MF269dw offers a variety of methods for printing from a mobile phone or tablet across iOS and Android devices. We don't often print from our iPhones or iPads however we do it just enough that this functionality is worthwhile.Bylo Selhi wrote: ↑21 Mar 2024 08:40 This seems like a decent price these days but I haven't done any research: IMAGECLASS MF275DW and ImageCLASS MF275dw for $250.

I don't recall ever providing CRA with an original document. In recent years if they have asked for documentation I have uploaded scanned copies or in the most recent case they asked me to FAX them documents. Clearly faxed document resolution is far less than scanned copies.

Methinks this discussion has morphed away from the original subject of favourite asset class to more detailed discussions on how one might invest in those asset classes. I don't continuously monitor my numbers against the index, but I refer mainly to Morningstar performance numbers posted and articles such as the following link; https://cymbria.com/article/Q3-2022-cymbria-commentary/ - see section Cymbria Corp., Class A NAV vs. MSCI World Index and inflation – Growth of $20,000 Nov. 3, 2008 to Sep. 30, 2022 I wouldn't start a thread on me vs passive because I don't have the energy, time, and resources. Re: Orienting Yourself in the User Control Panel
Hopefully FWF members new here and those who have been around for quite some time are aware of using BBCode's in their posts. If not then maybe read the helpful BBCode guide for a refresher.
Members might also want to check their User Control Panel (UCP) settings for Edit posting defaults which has controls for whether or not BBCode, smilies, signatures and reply notifications are enabled or disabled.
While you are checking things in your UCP settings you might also take a look at Notifications in Edit notification options which controls when and how you receive notifications for various items.
Does anyone else have helpful tips on UCP settings that might benefit others?

Let see if I can find a tutorial on how to post links from articles posted on my TDW account without giving away my ID (???). Really not sure how that works, not that tech savvy. Any guidance will be appreciated. I suspect that is not possible when you are quoting research/news material within a discount brokerage account. That said, you often include something like "The Globe and Mail/ TD Market News]" or "[WSJ/TD Market News]" so it might be possible with Google's help to find the original source, i.e. The Globe and Mail or the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). A key measure of U.S. inflation rose faster in January than the Federal Reserve would have liked, as policy makers watch for more signs of easing price pressures befo...

Thanks for the additional link. I concur there seems to be some level of contradiction. I guess their explanation comes from How We Invest | CPP InvestmentsMordko wrote: ↑14 Mar 2024 08:57 Not quite sure which particular CPP statement you are not sure about. That appears to be in contradiction to “singular objective to maximize…returns”.

Re: Pi Day
For some background ... A Slice of Pi (π) Day History | Exploratorium March 14 is Pi (π) Day, the annual celebration of a never-ending number—and Albert Einstein’s birthday. How did pi inspire a national holiday and an international celebration thousands of years after its discovery? It all started at the Exploratorium with former staff physicist, tinkerer, and media specialist Larry Shaw. In 1988, three years after the death of Exploratorium Founder Frank Oppenheimer, staff gathered at a retreat in Monterey, California, to soul search and brainstorm. It was there that Shaw linked March 14 (3.14) with the digits of pi (3.14159…), seeing it as an extraordinary opportunity to bring Exploratorium staff together. And π Day was born. On the firs...

Re: The government is considering changing investment objectives for CPP
Is the Subject line accurate here? As far as I can tell the genesis for this is an open letter from Canadian business executives and reply article from other executives who work, or worked, for pension plans. More than 90 Canadian business executives recently signed an open letter calling for governments to make re-evaluating pension model “a national priority,” It would be helpful to have a link to that open letter. In fact, despite its clear mandate to earn the best financial return on the assets it manages, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) is already committed to leveraging those assets to pursue collateral objectives instead. CPPIB’s investment strategy now involves pushing society towards “net-zero” carbon emissions by ...

You asked our viewpoint and some of us have tried to provide answers and/or links to further your research into the matter. I have given it my best shot.
I would suggest this is far outside the scope of knowledge here on FWF and hence some of us have suggested Google might provide better answers.
Ultimately the Canadian tax system relies on self-assessment by tax payers. Each tax payer is responsible for reporting their total income and determining their total tax owing. CRA enforces the tax law by performing a number of audits on individuals and businesses each year.

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck comes to mind particularly because you classify this as a "regular gift".
"Regular gift" sounds very much like an income arrangement and therefore should be self-reported on your tax return. The Canadian tax system relies on taxpayers to properly self report their income, so at some point CRA could poke their nose into your "arrangement".

Globe and Mail wrote:The CRA said on Tuesday it won’t charge standard penalties for taxpayers who submit their 2023 bare trust returns after the deadline. It also said it will apply a more severe kind of penalty for people who fail to submit the required paperwork only “in the most egregious cases” of gross negligence.
The agency had indicated in December that it would avoid regular penalties for late bare trust returns. But it also said it would still apply the more onerous penalties when it deemed taxpayers “knowingly” failed to file or did so owing to gross negligence.
