Re: The All Stock Portfolio?
Can't find a link to the email I received on this fellows website but linked a copy below, any thoughts? https://canadiandividendinvesting.com/ Alvin’s mock dividend portfolio Like a lot of retirees, Alvin wants his portfolio to do the following: Deliver sustainable income That grows slightly faster than inflation With a low risk of dividend cuts That will ideally slowly grow his capital over time Leaving a sizable inheritance for his kids Combine that with his CPP and OAS and he figures that’ll be enough, especially considering he owns a small paid-off condo with very reasonable monthly fees. I considered all this when building Alvin’s mock portfolio. It’s stuffed full of Canadian dividend stocks with growth potential that collectively yie...

Re: Retirement Income Style Awareness (RISA)
Not exactly what I was looking for but the chart shows with a 5% probability of failure you equity allocation can be a s low as 20% and still use a 4% withdrawal rate. (I think) I’ve replicated that figure below using 1000 Monte Carlo simulations for each strategy based on the annual SBBI data (1926-2010) for the same assets and assuming beginning-of-year withdrawals for inflation-adjusted withdrawals over a 30-year period. No taxes or fees are deducted. What this shows is that if a retiree is only willing to accept a 1% chance of failure, then the most they can hope to withdraw is about 3.8% with a 35-40% stock allocation. For a 5% chance of failure, a withdrawal rate of about 4.2% with a stock allocation of around 40-45% works best. https...

The bottom section on “Highest Success Rate” is a test of the 4% Rule. If you want to be 95% or 98% sure that you won’t run out of money, the chart shows the maximum amounts you can withdraw from your investments. For example, if you want to use the “100 minus your age” rule of thumb and have 70% bonds & 30% equities when you are close to 70, you should limit your withdrawals to 3.6% (not 4%) of your investments. 98% of the time in history, your money would have lasted 30 years. Re: Retirement Income Style Awareness (RISA)
Exactly that's why I thought 50% was to high a starting equity for the widest range of people. In that article the author says 50% should be the minimum, I question that assertion. I fired up the old dinosaur computer hopefully I can find some links, pretty sure 35% is the minimum that will make the 4% rule acceptable but I've been wrong before.AltaRed wrote: ↑17 Feb 2024 14:19 One does not need to avoid stock allocations over 75% at any time before, or early into, retirement if they have a cash wedge (bucket) sufficient to supplement the cash flow gap (avoiding stock monetization) for 1-2 years. There are more than a few ways to design a robust portfolio.

In such studies, constant/static stock proportions between 50% and 90%, or even 100% (with the rest, if any, of the portfolio allocated to cash and fixed income), have the lowest failure rates, i.e. the best odds of succeeding, based on historical data and simulations.[8][9][10] I thought Wade Pfau had some data that starting at 35% would meet the 4% rule and the main difference was terminal wealth & Volatility? From the quoted paper Sorting this all out, I think it is appropriate to advise the client to accept a stock allocation as close to 75 percent as possible, and in no cases less than 50 percent. and going over 75% What occurs when we increase stocks to more than 75 percent of the portfolio? This also turns out to be counterprodu...

OT but this week I just did a non RRSP US $ transfer from TDDI to big bank. Not sure how long its been like this but you can now EFT US$ to a non-TD bank same as Canadian dollars. You need US $ account linked with Void check. You need money in cash, call in, and ask to get it transferred.( I guess they may sell TDB for you but that would take an extra day) Was there the next day.

Re: Financial Planning for Child
Rules may have changed but we used a simple In Trust account and half the money our daughter earned on her own went into it. (some government benefits qualified, baby bonus? She has a SIN right?) IIRC correctly birthday presents and any gifts qualified we had a jar on the counter half in the savings account half for her to spend. Even small amounts add up over time. Once she was old enough to open a TFSA we put it all in there.

Correct - Equity up 2.75 times since retirement, last 12 years. Whole portfolio has doubled as best as I can tell without trying to find all the info. We will get to giving to the daughter, soon. With both of us not working we're cash flowing more then double we made in our careers then you add on a little bit of capital gains, amazing.OnlyMyOpinion wrote: ↑16 Feb 2024 10:40You're not spending and giving enough away!formerpatriot wrote: ↑16 Feb 2024 09:14 There is a lot of talk about decumulation strategies on this forum but I am curious as to how many of the regular posters actually have a portfolio that keeps growing during retirement.

I think you guys are "somewhat" forgetting Golden Rule number two three - When you have the urge to do something go lie down. (attributed to an FWFer)
When something goes on sale, if I don't have a full position, I buy it, referring to Both TD and BCE but already have full positions in both.Warren Buffett once said, “The first rule of an investment is don't lose [money]. And the second rule of an investment is don't forget the first rule. And that's all the rules there are.”

Will a FCT Torque Wrench fit a 2017 M1 driver?
If you have a 2017 TaylorMade M1 driver and need to make adjustments using the FCT system, the FCT Torque Wrench should work perfectly fine for your club. Just ensure that you're using the correct settings and following the manufacturer's instructions for making adjustments to your driver.

Anyone have a chart comparing these ETF rates to GIC's?
https://www.purposeinvest.com/thoughtfu ... ry-changesWhile the yield on these products has experienced a slight decrease over the last three months in response to regulatory changes, they continue to offer numerous operational advantages (listed below) and deliver significantly better rates than most traditional savings vehicles accessible to Canadians. We do not expect any more material cuts to the fund’s yield stemming from repricing changes from the banks.

Why is this important?
Although it is easy to think that market structure doesn’t matter to investors, this research shows something as simple as the right stock price and spreads can save investors millions each day.

We regularly share relevant information about wills and estates. In British Columbia, the need for probate does vary on a case-by-case basis, but a good rule of thumb is that an estate worth less than $25,000 usually does not need to go through probate.

Re: WealthSimple Cash
I may be misunderstanding what you guys are talking about but they do have US balance capacity.
If you’re not a premium or generation account holder for a low fee of $10 a month you sign up then any US dividends or transfers will stay in US dollars. You have to opt-in. They don’t have a US cash account like the Canadian so once you have your US dollars there you could buy PSU.U fractionally, there may be other better ETF’s not sure.

Dig a little more looking at WXM (holds 30 stocks) only been around since 2012, compared it to my current weightings back tested and compared holdings to XIU, eh!
If I had bought even one or two of the winning holdings shown beside grid would have done better but my portfolio, at least in a back test, seems to better over longer periods.

Re: Power of Dividend Growth, 2023 (and beyond)
To late to worry should have incorporated some momentum way earlier. I'd be ok with adding a few "Momentum stocks" as long as they were also dividend growth stocks. I have room for 3-5 more CAD and 3-4 more US stocks in my portfolio. Myth no. 8: Momentum is too volatile to rely on The authors agree that momentum is indeed more volatile than some other strategies. But as you saw momentum generated higher risk adjusted returns (higher Sharpe ratio) than value or size strategies. To compensate for the high volatility the authors suggest combining momentum with value investing so that your portfolio will do better should the market decline substantially. This will help you to better withstand downturns in either value investment and m...

They point to changes in the banking sector, materials, oil & gas, and technology as the main reasons.
I have no horse in the race. My handful of dividend paying stocks are for income. It's not necessary that they beat the TSX anymore.

Dumb question why are you planning on spending dividends instead of interest? Just because I'm usually backwards I spend my interest or GIC principle if I have to (unlikely) and reinvest the dividends. This has slowly pushed my AA from 35/65 to 47/53 (Max will be 50/50 unless I make a change) about 1% a year increase in equity, an increasing equity glide path.
