Re: If all the markets crash??
Were so fortunate/lucky to live in North America. Some talk of crash but there's never been one on the level of .....Germany, France, Hungary Latin America on and on for real. Taken, gonzo, commies, internment camp whole bit. We just whine via $300 month phone plans that the grocery store cost more. I tried to find the graphic that showed actual market disasters but couldn't turn my favorite one up. sorry Too bad we don't say decline instead of crash but I guess those that overreact provide the juice for the longer slow players. cheers

Re: Thailand Travel
I'm a few days late to this as we were camping. We went to Thailand with a side trip to Cambodia Dec06-Jan07 so it's been a while but I'm sure the basics are the same. First off it's a pretty easy place despite the cultural and language thing. The backpacker kids can pull it off so its prettyeasy with a gold card and grey :). We flew from Bangkok up to Chiang Mai. Went to a place run north of there for a few days by a Brit and his Thai wife. ent north by car, went south back into town by a songthaew(truck). From Chiang Mai to Sukhotai we did a vip bus. Double decker, a lunch stop with lunch itself included. Was fine, bathroom floor gets a bit sticky. At the bus station the place we had booked came out and picked us up in his car. HE's likel...

To me it's worth $1,000 to have a nice new seat without somebody else squishing it down for half a decade before my bum gets there. I've had about 4-5 corolla's. Great transport. We bought a Highlander to tow a trailer so that was a change

Even just this last month was an additional 25% slide. Once the hardcore sleepy owners hit that line of thinking there's not much meat left on the bone is there.

Re: VBAL Everywhere
VBAL versus VEGT and gic = I guess it comes down to how far are you willing to deviate from the one touch etf. I'm a bit more in the cap that I'd like to select, ease in and out of gic, short term bond etf, vab or such. Then you have to keep yourself from messing with vegt with a couple alternative ideas. Then there is that really nice div on a underappreciated stock with the tax credit. Then you wake up to a four page account summary again Interesting.

I read them a few times a year. Some needs to get him to knock the work count down by half then edit it down again. It's his style to go around and around for ten minutes. Now and then someone has to tell a billionaire to get to the point Think Templeton or Munger or somebody.

Mawer Global Equity MAW120 mostly in rsp accounts, buy hold now years later its made a nice return. Also have a lesser amount in Mawer small cap global MAW150 also in rsp's. It's slipped relative to it's benchmark of late. My thinking was I didn't have much global small cap so I made a space for it a dozen years years ago. Less compelling now. Will likely whittle it down as we are now retired and i have to draw something now from our rsps to prevent some sort of tax hell down the road.
Thanks for the info on Edgepoint, new info before my eyes is a nice thing whether acted on on not

It happened when Genivar bought WSP maybe ten years ago. (Boy did I make a nice turn on that money). Genivar was globally unknown but it seemed wsp had a reputation so it worked for them. I guess in this case snc is kind of fleeing from there name to take shelter in this new thing.

Shingles, one of the two shots did the slow-mo on us too. I don't recall if it was 1st or 2nd but it was doing it's job for sure. It was during covid times while my wife still had some benefits.

https://www.newsweek.com/florida-california-insurance-uninsurable-climate-change-1817260 The link is on insurability of Florida housing. An interesting point for me was the concentration of litigation and fraud. Emira's Florida business is sa pretty big piece of their cookie. It's not looking to simple and tranquil anymore. At the least something to be aware of...cya 'Hurricane Andrew caused somewhere between $16 and $20 billion in insured losses in 1992. Seven major storms between 2004 and 2005 caused between $35 billion in losses combined, representing another "wakeup call for insurers about how frequent storms can cause a lot of problems," Nyce said. But it's not just climate change that has led to the current crisis in the Sun...

I've barely budged in 18 months but today I bought a little TD, BCE and CPX. A few months ago I bought a small amount of ADBE (adobe). Basically a 1% nudge from FI to EQ. Was in a taxable account so a wee lean from interest income to cdn div's. Now back to vacations, burgers and canoes.

Tddi and Morningstar have the dividend payout ratio in the 170% range. Does anyone know of any accounting gymnastics that makes this a ok and I can go back to sleep on this one? I appreciate firing 6,000 just might bring the ratio down but... Cheers

I had the vague impression Niger supplies/supplied France Uranium. Likely the biggest Western European user country. Might work for you short term anyway.

I have some VGT, vanguards tech sector, seems similar at a glance. Another way to look at it is, it's a way to be involved with the sector without making very specific win or lose individual stock selections. It's still a ride at the park but you get a flimsy seatbelt instead of the full weeee. Some growers moved up some that loss the grip go down. Yes the top ten carry a huge % of the overall value but works as a spice on the side for me.

Re: Enbridge (Symbol-ENB)..are we getting close to a buy???
Couldnt fast find a story I read today about enb so sorry to not have a link, likely easy to find though. A US judge gave them 3 years to reroute a section around a reservation, pay a small trespassing fine. Enb were looking at a number of years to get govt permits to do so. (Did you happen to want energy or not Everything everywhere seems to resemble silverbacks snarling a teach other. Maybe the past was in your face too but I don't seem to recall as much division in the say 80's 90's.)
