Brian, please let us know if they honor the requested 1% or where they land with their counter offer.

Thanks

Yes, we have several small-medium family accounts at Wealthsimple. Very happy. My plan is to move everything to WST when the right promo offer arrives. A new iPhone is the wrong offer.

StuBee wrote: 14 Nov 2023 15:35 The markets are up sharply today. The interest sensitive stocks, utilities, pipelines are all positive... except for ENB!!

I did a search and I can't seem to find anything new and worrisome. Enbridge dropped by nearly 1$ in the first hour of trading and is still down by as much.

Does anyone have a clue?

Not interested in iPhones, TVs or toasters - especially if I'm not in the market for them.

Will gladly move my TDDI assets when the right cash offer comes along.

Re: PSA testing

I'm 55 and every annual medical checkup I've had involves bloodwork (including PSA).

I've never had a DRE, and to be honest, the thought makes me uncomfortable.

Is it something that I should push my GP about?

Scotia offering $4,000 for those of you with $2M accounts

Interestingly, Wealthsimple Trade also offered $4,000 this past summer but you only needed just $500,000 to qualify (WST since reduced to $2,000)

My car doesn't have a navigation system. I use my phone for google maps.

I still keep an yellow road map book as a backup in my car in case my cell phone dies.

None whatsoever except it eliminates the need to deal with pesky distributions at least during accumulation.
+1

In addition, HXT remains the best way to track the TSX S&P60 irrespective of distributions.

Re: Glorianne Stromberg - RIP

I never met her in person, however she will be remembered as a staunch investor advocate, making her a thorn in the side of the greedy side of investment fund business......... for all the right reasons.

I would be surprised to hear too many in the investment fund business acknowledging her important contributions given she was a champion for fairness to individual investors across Canada via lower fees which we all benefit from today.

RIP

It was the first capital of Thailand, and since the town is less visited you get much more of a feel of the history, culture and ruins rather than an overrun touristy experience. If you are physically inclined they have rental bicycles to get around the ruins in the park as well that let you cover more ground more easily. Really one of the highlights of all of our trips to Thailand over the years.
Good tip, thank you.

Thailand Travel

Hello all

Mrs. optional wants to plan a winter vacation to Thailand. More for the cultural aspect and not the beach (Phuket)

I'm thinking its best to join a tour so we can see all the cultural highlights between Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

Anyone been to Thailand? Any veteran recommendations are appreciated

Medcan - Health Care in Retirement

Does anyone here use the services of Medcan ?

Is it worth the $3000-$4000 a year membership fee?

Any pros or cons based on your experience?

The claim is Albertans own more than 50% of the CPP.

How is this possible?

Re: willful [online Will and POA service]

I did my first Will & POA at the age of 20 with a lawyer in Ontario. I don't recall how much I paid. Then when I was 50, we completely redid our wills/POAs with a new lawyer for approx $3800. What I discovered (in my case) was the new will document was identical in language as the 30 year old document - as if done by a template. Other than the changes I made to beneficiaries and other small changes, the document language was 95% identical. This after 30 years of legal evolution. I suspect for "simple wills", there is likely little need to spend $4000+ on a lawyer when there are several options with firms like willful without an actual lawyer on staff or axess with actual lawyers on staff which are able to template simple wills...

Re: willful [online Will and POA service]

.

A good competitor to wilful (in Ontario) is Axess Law

A bit more expensive than wilful however Axess provides actual lawyers for face to face meetings and Q&A which may merit the additional cost.

At Axess Law, $600+HST covers a couple for both Wills and POAs

Disclosure: I have used Axess Law for a previous real estate transaction and found them to be good.

willful [online Will and POA service]

I came across this online Will and POA service with some friendly rates. Also allows for regular updating for much less than any lawyer I've ever encountered.

Wondering if anyone here at FWF has considered or used this service?

Re: Mutual Funds - Do you own some? NOT a debate on the merits

Our household only owns mutual funds that we are forced to own (e.g. DCPP or small amounts in e-series to avoid brokerage commissions).

While there are some decent active managers, we wouldn't look at any investment fund with an annual MER above 30 bps unless a gun is held to our heads.
