Another area that is showing some strong returns is Canadian art. A Tom Tompson sold for $1.7 million the other day. Diamonds are good to invest in, also.

I'd say that the best place for cash is to buy old coins and stamps. These two investments have proven to be excellent in the long run.

I don't think the U.S. can go on forever financing Iraq, with a lot of other problems. It creates too many worries for the stock market. People are starting to question value, with so much debt.

The people who got hurt the most from this sub-prime mess are the ones who lost their homes. I don't think it's going to hurt the economy much, except to worry investors, which it's doing now - along with nearly $100/bbl oil. Banks will write it off as they always do - so it will hurt dividends for awhile.

The ban a dogs going on the beach isn't just to protect the beach goers, but also to protect the dogs, because beaches are covered in flees, which attach themselves to the dog, then infiltrate the condo.

You guys are really smart, buying gold, when it's selling for $800+ an ounce - what a bargain. Just like the people who bought Florida condos, waiting for their inevitable payday - just a few months down the road. Not as smart as the people who bought 6 months ago and are now selling to you. Just don't be the ones caught holding the bag.

Used Lincolns and Lexus from the states to save a few bucks shows how much class these buyers really have. A lot of these foreign bought cars are lemons dealers are anxious to unload at any cost. All the Canadian health care, good government, affluence, Remembrance day and people supporting U.S. retailers also shows their class, or lack of it. Waiting in line for 5 hours, engine running, to save a few cents, is proof of no class.

Watching the 12 o'clock news today, was the information that the Bloor condos had just raised their prices from a minimum $300,000 to $500,000. I know it's on a desirable corner, but $500,000 for a bachelor or small bedroom is a heck of a lot of money. Also, people who lined up were expecting the lower price. I guess the builder couldn't resist cashing in on the demand.

The previous graph shows that, although the last rise in housing went up 320%, it ended and there was a 17% drop, when the 'bubble' burst, it then went on to another 230% appreciation. If that's the all-dreaded meltdown that's being warned about here- as Bush says 'bring it on!'. A 550% rise and a 17% drop might scare a few chickens, but not anyone with a backbone.

I think that the people on BNN do a good job. It's not easy interviewing someone on live television. The only thing that gets annoying about the channel is that they repeat the commercials.

If the Can.$ go to 64 cents U.S., then the U.S.$ can go to 64 cents Can. Investors see a U.S. economy with deficits going far into the future, supporting an army of 160,000 in Iraq, another 20,000 in Afghanistan, it's auto industry in a mess, oil costing $100/bbl. and a president who is like a complete idiot, doing nothing to help. It's not good for the U.S.$.

The higher costs of Canadian life include shipping it farther north- so more gas, a smaller population - which means higher distribution costs, plus another level of taxes and duties that have to be paid. The products were bought months ago, meaning that they were paid with a lower priced Canadian dollar, so they have to sold with a higher price.

Most of this griping about prices is just plain old stupidity. People don't take into cosideration the higher costs of Canadian life and the fact that a lot of items are purchased months in advance, which means storage costs. It was started by the media, because it's easy news. People should quit whining and acting like cheapskates.

Now that the Can.$ is worth a lot more I'd like to see the royalties go directly to Ottawa. Then Ottawa could give it back piecemeal. Lake of polluted waste cleaned up? Here's $50 mill., etc. Those Alberta politicians are mostly farmers and ranchers, it's a good solution.

A rate cut would be bad for the U.S.$, but good for the U.S. stock market. If rates go down, companies with good profits will rise in price. Also, other countries will buy U.S. products because of the cheap U.S.$, creating more profits and decreasing the U.S.'s deficit. So, I think that a rate cut will be positive. Although, gas prices will rise, it could push the U.S. into conserving oil, which is also good.

Real estate is a lot like gold or even a good buffet. People take more than they can afford or eat. A lot of people figured for the mortgage fee, but when maintenance and bad luck happened, it was curtains. Old houses have a lot of problems - especially in the south. While they though their price was going up, it's true price was going down.

With the warm weather lasting longer, perhaps northern property might increase in value. Far northern cottage country might become more valuable. In the future it could become farmland. Maybe the fresh water in the lake could make it valuable. Wind power seems to be a good bet. Solar power is working out ok also.

Alberta is proving that it can't handle it's economy properly. It's environmental mess was featured prominently in Al Gore's movie. It's largest lakes are man-made oil-sludge waste. It's Heritage Fund sitting at a measly $16 billion. It's time Ottawa looked into things and perhaps took control. The rest of Canada has a right to protect Alberta from it's mismanagement.

I heard that Canadian banks might be a good place to put some money. They're buying up a lot of U.S. banks that are looking cheap, with the high Loonie. I read in today's Star that $50,000 in '57, would now be worth $6 million NOT even including dividends, if invested in BNS. So, they have a good track record.

New housing has an intrinsic value, that can't be disputed. It has to be worth what it cost to build. The land must be paid, the workers, new appliances etc., which can't be sold for less or it would be uneconomical. Most of the 'bubble', that's talked about here are old homes or bad mortgages.

I haven't changed my Yellow Pages in about 3 years and haven't noticed it. When they deliver stacks of them, in our building, people seem to avoid them. People don't read a lot these days. Environmentally, it's a disaster waiting to happen, considering the amount of forest being used, to make it. I think that the internet is easier and better, in a lot of cases.
