Re: Where do you keep your RDSP?

Thanks for the info from the Plan Institute, all and any info is much appreciated. We are holders for our Son's RDSP he is the beneficiary. TDDI is where we opened it, 16 years ago, he is now 53. He did not get the DTC until he was 37. He is no longer eligible for the bonds and grants but has received $54,000 through the years he was eligible. We have contributed $111,000 to date and the market value is now $326,000. It is my understanding as to plan withdrawal, that if the family contributions are more than the bonds and grants, the beneficiary can determine the withdrawal amounts at the end of year turning 59 and would be taxed accordingly, Is that correct? We still can contribute until he turns 59 years old and it is my understanding tha...

EQ Bank interest this month for $100.000. @2.50% was $188.38, my calculations for 30 days is $205.47, I have sent
an email an inquiry to customer service. There were no transactions for w/d during the month balance as stable. Does anyone else know why this should be any different.

Re: When to Invest Cash into VBAL

I totally agree with you. I have more than the 100K in each TD HISA right now and going to deploy the excess elsewhere. However I don't want to tie the funds up in log term GIC's. I was looking at the short term rates 90 to 119 days, I want to keep everything in TD to make it easier going forward. The only thing we have outside of TD are two accts joint with our
kids at E.Q. Bank, @2.50 and are immediately accessible.

Re: Canadian Banks

People are always looking for a downturn in the market and when it comes they are fearful of buying. In my humble opinion, I think
Banks are a buy right now for the long term investor. I bought more bank stocks than anything else in 2008.

Re: Dealing with intestate death

My experience with TD was similar in experience with their estate dept. My Son who is disabled was eligible to have Mom's
RIF transferred to his RDSP, which should have been easy. Mom passed away in April and it was probably 4 months to have the transfer done. It probably would have taken longer but I just kept bugging them....

Re: TD Direct Investing (was Waterhouse) Service

I am having a problem transferring funds from my non reg brokerage account to easyweb this morning. Called the Pres. Lin number and got a message that they were closed and the line is answered Mon to Friday, weird. Sold a stock yesterday and was transferring funds, and it indicated that I would have to call TD to do this. Do they hold funds from a sale until settlement. Haven't experienced this before.

Re: Complicated AAA vascular surgery repair.

My Husband just had endovascular surgery in October at the Hamilton General Hospital for an abdominal aneurysm. Three stents were put in place. Yours may be a bit more complicated. He had no symptoms, it was found on a routine ultrasound, we were told it looked like it had been leaking, was a weird shape and surgery was done within a month. The outcome was good…however he had lots of bruising and had trouble voiding and had a catheter for 12 days and then things returned to normal. He was out of hospital the next day. He has a heart condition, has Afib, was on blood thinners etc for years. Hamilton/Toronto and Ottawa have excellent reputations for these surgeries. I went through all the what if’s due to his age, but after talking to the Sur...

Re: High interest savings, GICs and MMFs (2022) - rates

My accts at EQ Bank are in non-reg HISA and I have called EQ Bank to state how this increase for TFSA and RSP accounts only have
made me aware of how they are not interested in my investments in their bank. I will be transferring these funds out of their bank
If they choose not to raise the rate for non-registered account holders…and I am not interested in any long term GIC’s that they offer.

they would raise this rate, but doesn't look like it....so thinking of moving funds out.

Re: Is it just TD, or are all brokerages as cumbersome?

I am with TDDI for all accounts, in order to keep things simple and have been with TD for over 50 years and I can say that I usually have no problems with getting results if there has ever been a problem. Last Tuesday before 9 a.m. I called in to a TD Rep. to do a transfer to my Son's Registered RDSP Account. The transfer was 100 shares of stock, in kind to his RDSP... approx. value $2900.00 from our TDDI Brokerage Acct. I had never transferred stock to his account before but the Rep. said there was no problem and put in the order and gave me a reference number. To date this has not been done, I called back and get "It is under review"..... has anyone here had this experience when transferring to an RDSP. Usually I transfer cash a...

The EQ bank site is not accessible right now, there is a message on their site that the traffic and high number of calls
they are experiencing is causing a problem and advises to try back at a later time.

Interesting here in Burlington Ont..... the price of a house is coming down but condo's are staying fairly firm, probably because of the senior demographics of this area.

Re: Electric Cars

Thanks for posting this Wallace, very informative article. We just bought a new vehicle in April, we were not convinced
we were ready to go to a EV vehicle at this time. We have always driven a car with a V6 ICE. We decided to go with
2.0 Turbo in this car, we bought a 2021 Cadillac XT4 Premium Luxury and love it....and it was fully equipped and we did not have to wait to have the extras installed at a later date.... as it was manufactured in Nov. 2020. It was a demo driven
by the Dealer's wife for a few months.

There are so many safety features, and we have always driven the GM brand. As this article pointed out there will always be environment issues in most everything going forward. Thanks again.

Re: Best Credit Card (2021 - 2025)

We have a P.C. Credit Card and Visa Infinite Card. During Covid we have been using the PC Card more and redeeming the
points more often at Shoppers and when entertaining I like to use Fortino's catering menu, have found the food wonderful and love the menu. However I have to constantly monitor the points for purchases outside of their scope. In the last two weeks I have had to make 4 points inquiries and they seem to be quick in making the adjustment, it is just getting to be not worth it, and will probably start using the card less and less for other purchases.
