Re: Sell in May and go away?
Some of these guys (previous post) have been predicting a major crash since 2012. Someday, maybe in 2023, there will be a "crash". Maybe a 25 to 30% drop in the S&P500. In the years that will follow, guys like Paul Farrell and Marc Faber will be referred to as "the guy who predicted the 2023 crash" on platforms like www.marketwatch.com. Like the eternabear Rosenberg from G.Sheff   Financial medias likes to repeat the same mainstream tropes ad nauseum. Why do they do this if it appears to not be true? If I had to guess, it's because it rhymes. Good one yeah   To me, when it is for investing, what I care is about fair value, margin of safety and entry price. That supress a lot of temptati...

Re: What did you Buy? What might you buy? (2019)
The prices of residential real estate is much higher then it was in the pre 2008 financial crisis. This is especially so in Toronto and Vancouver. If there was a collapse and a wave of foreclosures and big mortgage losses the balance sheet for MIC would be under a lot of pressure. The debt levels of the average Canadian is at record levels. I just raise this possibility I don't know whether this a clear and present danger. I do know being 73 years of age and that recessions and bear real estate markets will happen again. For sure you have good points, I also just read Divestor's post about Genworth MI. @nisser; yes I know it is tanking, but between this and a crash there is a gap. But yes I'm agree that the housing market in Canada is over...

For sure it would tank. It was at about $19 in 2009. This company works with the CHMC and provides the same kind of insurance.
IMH2centsO I don't see how a housing crash, in Canada, would occurs; there are no subprime junks here, and the banks managed well 2008/2009.
Of course corrections in the housing market happens and the stocks crashed in this period. For my part I focus mostly at fundamentals/financials and few technicals, so they can crash I have nothing against panic bargains.
The only MICs I held, before MIC, were FC and AI. I made relative short term trades on them by the past, and I actually hold a tiny position in AI.

Re: What did you Buy? What might you buy? (2019)
Added shares on MIC this Friday, love the dips and love its chart, I started to get a position in it earlier this week, after a long time to have it in my "shopping" list.
Added shares on M on March 20, before it raises up (no timing, I didn't expect Mosaic creeping up back so fast, even if it's just after the Y2018 report release, but I don't spit on 15% returns anyway).
Also added on BPF.UN on March 21, just expanding the position, nothing special.
That's all for this week

I also played the greedy one today: Sold CPX, APR.UN, AD and CRT.UN today (15-20% / stock incl divi paid). It was time to reap some gains above dividends.

Re: Exchange Income Corporation (EIF-T)
EIF is a stock that I swing trade since 2013. Not that I don't like the company but the trades on this stock are funny, and one time it has been silly but worthy ($6/7 gain in one day on bad/BS report about the value of the company). So, I discovered pretty fast that I could make more money by trading it than holding it for dividends.
It's certainly not the stock of the century for swing trading, but I don't complain.
I know it's not the main style / "financial ideology" of many people on this forum, but it is what it is.

Personally I pay for data access (for 10+ years financials and other stuff) for years now, from a US provider since I haven't found anything here in Canada that gives satisfaction in this domain, for the way of investing I using.

Bought BNS yesterday, my first bank (never too late), since its valuation came at a good price in my model.

Total return 2017: +18.31% (including sales for 2017)
It's an exception because I made more transactions than usual, during this year.

Dividend paid increased by 7.74% in 2017 vs 2016. I expect between 8 to 11.5% increase in 2018.

I hold REITs too, but I don't see how we can consider them other than what they are, stocks. It's like apples and berries.
They are a specific industry but the asset class stay the same.
They are also integrated with my cdn stock portolio.

Initiated a position today with RNW @$13.68. I don't have much of utilities outside of CPX, time to change that a bit.

Re: Crescent Point Energy Corporation - CPG-T
I exited from CPG in 2013, because of "serial dilutions" and also because my valuation model evolving didn't gave it good results on this stock.
No regrets.

Started a position with CPX, one week ago, as part of my 2017 shopping list.
Reasons: Good valuation, phasing out of their coal burning plant (they will receive a compensation for that), good divi and cash flow, even if this one will see fluctuations do to plant's change but it is a long position anyway.

1yr 2016 total return: 12.52% (VI stocks + CEFs + Prefs all CAD)
It's only the first year I track TR since I invest mainly for income (and cap app as a bonus), so excuse me for the lack of history.
