Re: the Quebec election
Don't know how the stocks fared, but circa 1979 I was involved in the (quiet) relocation of Sun Life's corporate offices from Montreal to Toronto.........the technology has, obviously, vastly improved since then, but in those days having a working number in one city operational in another required, (AFAIK, I wasn't a network guy), expensive (to the subscriber) manual connections.
Anyway.....'point' of this story is that the Toronto office initially had at least one 'local' Montreal number that rang in Toronto and was answered exclusively in French, implying that Quebec callers were dealing 'locally'........political & economic 'sensitivity' an' all that.

My wife will listen for a short while before saying "We're not interested".......me, if I bother to answer the 'phone, I immediately say "No" and hang up.newguy wrote:I don't see why people don't just hang up. I only get cell phone type calls (ie. from places I've given my ph #) and once I realize who it is I just hang up. My gf was dealing with a call once and shrugging her shoulders while giving me the questioning eyebrow raise and mouthing 'what do I do'. I held out my hand for the phone and just closed it. She said 'I didn't know you could do that', like it wasn't even considered an option.
Why do we have a mental block against hanging up?

Have you considered bursitis? Back in the last century when I used to lift weights I would sometimes get similar symptoms, except when I was working out........before & after I was working out I pretty much had to turn my entire upper body to look behind me.......while I was doing benches, etc, it appeared to self-lubricate.....or somesuch.
Eventually it just went away.

Can't offer a diagnosis, but I seem to recall a Groucho Marx exchange anlong the lines of:

IIRC, there was a Dr Terry Kavanagh, whom I believe 'operated' out of Sunnybrook Hospital in the 1970s, (or at least that's when I used to read about him in running magazines before I went to Saudi), and established a program to 'rehabilitate' heart attack victims to the level where they'd compete in the Boston Marathon......same guy?CROCKD wrote: Interestingly the Rehab Centre continues to work in miles as the program was founded by Dr.Cavanaugh a Brit who is retired but still gives the occasional lecture.

Re: Starting an exercise program...
Oddly enough it doesn't bother them when I take two stairs at a time, (right now I only do one stair at a time every tenth repeat); perhaps the angle is such that the quads do all the work? The physiotherapist, whom I mentioned on my July 05 post, was of the opinion that stair climbing would strengthen the muscles around the knee, which might help to alleviate any current discomfort and would be a definite asset when recuperating from knee replacement surgery, if/when I have to have them done..............(i.e. if I outlive them......if I don't, they're on their own. ) Perhaps the physiotherapist was right. I have noticed that my anterior knee pain is settling and there is no swelling/thickening of the patellar tendon, which suggest...

I'd just like to clarify that, for me, 'danger' is less of a deciding factor than is aesthetics.....I just prefer to ride trails. As a life-long cyclist, I am disturbed by statements reporting a perception that on-road cycling is dangerous.
