Re: Notifications don't seem to work right.

The message "Subscribe topic" is backwards from what you might think. It confused me for a while, as well.

The checkbox next to "Subscribe topic" drop-down means that you are currently not subscribed. Check that box to see a brief message:

"You have subscribed to be notified of new posts in this topic."

and the drop-down changes to "Unsubscribe topic" (box not checked). Check that box again to see that the message now says:

"You are no longer subscribed to this topic."

So, try it again with the drop-down showing the "Unsubscribe topic" box unchecked.

Here's your chance to go to the moon. See: NASA VIPER | Fly your name to the Moon

It's in name only, but you have to start somewhere.

Be sure to save your boarding pass - it's a .jpg file - and remember your PIN.

I also have an Artemis pass and will take the first flight offered.

Bylo Selhi wrote: 29 Dec 2023 08:47 A propos to LadyGeek's and Unwise's comments, here's the Hardware Maintenance Manual. It provides instructions on opening and servicing this computer as well as related maintenance/troubleshooting information.

Also bookmark Product Home for all available information about this computer.
The hardware maintenance manual is not intended for newbies. Page 119 (PDF) / printed page 111 shows how to open the case (Removing the computer cover). It can be a bit tricky.

I think a better reference would be the ThinkCentre M700, M900 and M900x User Guide. Page 87 (PDF) / printed page 77 has the same info, but it might be easier to understand.

Re: Computer problems

Ran HWiNFO, but don't understand the results at all. Attached a Word file with screen capture Thanks for trying. The screen capture shows the CPU and hardware build info. Nothing with temperatures or fan speeds. -- have no idea what a capacitor looks like but ongoing learning is one way to stave off dementia Unwise's article can help as a learning process. I think the best thing you can do is what was already suggested - check for a stuck fan, put the PC in a location with good air circulation, and clean out the dust. One more thing - This is critical and should be done first. - Backup your PC before you take it apart. If something goes awry and it fails to boot, you want your data saved somewhere else. Re: Computer problems

My Lenovo M900 desktop with Win 10 won't boot unless it's been unplugged for a while. Everything passed the Lenovo Vantage diagnostic check, including the motherboard. I wonder if opening the box -- a lot of trouble -- and removing all dust with a vacuum and Swiffer would help. If the power supply is failing, as commonly suggested on the net, it looks like I can get a replacement on eBay for about $80, but...... 1. PC Health Check scan said this computer can't run Win 11. So it'll be dead to me after October 2025 2. Seems to be OK for now if I don't turn it off, leaving it on during day/evening and then putting it to sleep overnight Any suggestions? Thanks Have you checked if it is running hot? You can use a tool like speccy: https://www.c...

Re: Computer problems

Apparently, this is normal behavior. OneDrive does indeed continue to sync in Sleep mode. I uninstalled OneDrive on my Win 11 laptop, but that doesn't help you here.

The only solution I could find was to pause the syncing. Here's an article on how to do that: How to Turn Off OneDrive in Windows 11 (How to Pause OneDrive)

I recently installed Windows 11 on a new PC and OneDrive was one of the first things I uninstalled.

I already have an online backup solution and have no need for anything else. If you don't have your files backed up online somewhere, then consider OneDrive as a safety net.

Re: Coronavirus (COVID-19) - community and consumer impacts?

The US government has (again) restarted shipping free at-home Covid-19 test kits. See: Place Your Order for Free At-Home COVID-19 Tests As of November 20, 2023, residential households in the U.S. are eligible for another order of #4 free at-home tests from USPS.com. Here's what you need to know about your order: - Each order includes #4 individual rapid antigen COVID-19 tests ( COVIDTests.gov has more details about at-home tests , including extended shelf life and updated expiration dates) - If an order has not been placed for your address since the program reopened on September 25, 2023, you can place# 2 orders now - Orders will ship free starting the week of November 27, 2023 I placed my order and received an immediate email confirmation.

Re: Remembrance Day

From someone residing in the US, I was unaware Canada had a Remembrance Day period. From Peculiar_Investor's link:
The lapel Poppy should be worn during the Remembrance period, from the last Friday in October until November 11.
Thank you for the education and I'll repeat what I stated last year - You can't express it any better than this.

I'd also like to extend my wishes for good luck to those impacted by the fire.

US news has been swamped with the Hawaii fires, but things have calmed down and they're starting to focus on Canada.

Until now, it was covered as a wildfire in Canada's northwest (Yellowknife). Kelowna was finally mentioned in the news yesterday.

Re: Dual USA/Canadian citizen thinking of moving to Canada to start a family - soliciting feedback!

Many US hospitals offer Canadian nurses much better pay and working conditions than they can get here. Then there's my two pet peeves. 1) Canadian law recognizes nurse practitioners but Ontario and likely other provinces prohibit them from billing the medicare system. So they must work for hospitals or medical clinics as employees or open their own office outside of medicare as one just did in a small town near me. 2) My understanding is that an American who goes to the doctor's office with a routine issue sees a physician's assistant, not the GP. My wife had this experience when she developed a leg pain while visiting Rhode Island. Canadian law recognizes PAs but there are very few and I'm told they typically commute across the border dai...
