One last piece of advise. Stop re-amortizing your mortgage for 30 years every time it comes up for renewal.
Remember that the OP is American and the US mortgage rules and specifically mortgage interest deductibility (tax advantage) on their tax returns changes the equation and philosophy.

Greetings, longtime lurker, first-time poster. First off, I want to thank Gummy, Bylo and Shakespeare, among others, for their extensive knowledge sharing both here and elsewhere. Re: Estate Planning... POA or must be Will?

Unless my wife and I are willing to have everything joint, otherwise, a will is a must. I think you are missing the point of what everyone has been replying. A will is a must, period. In Canada, if you die without a Will you are considered to have died "intestate." Simply put, this means that your ...

Hello, Where would you put half a million for 6 months to get the best returns? Will need the funds to put back into a new home in about 6 - 8 months. Thanks! Re: Impacts of currency fluctuations and currency hedging on returns

That sounds similar to Jack Bogle's contention that U.S. investors don't need international investments, because U.S. companies make a big part of their business abroad. On this point I disagree with Bogle. If you believe in the underlying theory of indexing, which is purchasing a broadly based ind...

Am I the only one worrying about such things? I think longtime FWF'ers have previously done the analysis and figured out it isn't worth the worrying, as best summed up by ... Unhedged ETFs have lower costs and should be favoured for that reason alone. Currency fluctuations in the long run cancel ou...

It appears expensive right now. Near a 52 week high, trading over BV, yield under 4%. A better entry point would be in the $40-45 range. Look at a 5 year chart.
