Re: TFSA 2015

Was this moderator's request of Friday April 24th to keep politics out of a financial thread/forum not clear? Cease and desist. Moderator W Why is a statement by an officer of Parliament, legislated to be non-partisan, considered political in this thread? Would a statement by the Auditor General al...

Re: TD Direct Investing (was Waterhouse) Service

When this fee was first introduced I learned on this forum that TDDI would waive it for seniors. Since you have a RIF, I'm assuming you're a senior so that should work. At the time I told a senior relative of mine about that and they waived it for them just by asking. I would call them and ask "I u...

Re: Seniors' discounts should be scrapped, study suggests

Here's the big senior's discount. Seniors pay the same for health care, via taxes, as younger people, standardizing for income levels. Yet they consume between five and ten times as much health care resources. That's a huge discount from what seniors should be paying for health care. George Are you...

Oh.. so do you steal editions of The Star from your neighbours or the local coffee shops? That's a low blow, even for you!  I never steal. How like you to go all drama queen and Bette Davis on this...and in bold as well. It was a razz - something you do on a regular basis on this forum...

Then why do you read them and quote them? Why not just look out the window instead? :P I never pay for the Star. I read it when I can get it for free to understand how other points of view are presented. I'll quote it whenever I find something I find either very good, or really outrageous. Oh.. so ...

Simply an annoyance to try to log on. One must visit all their "come hither" pages before accessing one's account because the direct access to one's account does not work. Simply tedious.

Re: Income Splitting [Policy discussion]

So many comments and different views on this topic suggests that the entire issue is not based on economics but is only a political gambit. Let's not forget that Saint Flaherty cast doubt on the policy. On the upside maybe the policy can squeeze more kids out of a reluctant generation in order to pr...

Re: Income Splitting

Just more complication and frustration to the tax code and filing of one's taxes I think for little benefit. Tax preparation software companies will have to scramble to address this in their software and many questions remain regarding how the "tax savings" due to income splitting can be deployed to...

Some of the names wer...

MARGARET WENTE How to make ends meet? Look in the mirror I don't always agree with her columns but a lot of which she espouses here is correct. Re: Health Insurance for Retirees (Ontario)

As all of us boomers tumble into hospital over the next decade or so, paying insurance premiums for semi-private or private rooms is a non-starter.
