Re: High interest savings, GICs and MMFs (2023)
We have a short term GIC maturing tomorrow. The best offer Tangerine could give me was 3.25 either for a savings acct. or a short term GIC again - Hello Motive.

Thanks to all above. Son is mid fifties so a 5 to ten year horizon. I'm leaning a bit towards VGRO, but will consider it further.

Son's RRSP question
I finally got my (no investment experience) son to get cracking on his RRSP. He has opened a fairly sizable RRSP account at Questrade and is anxious to populate it.
I have some ideas and appreciate thoughts. He has $25,000 to start and I'm thinking either 15 or 20 thousand to Vanguard's VSP or VGRO and the remainder in VDY for a little more Canadian exposure.
VBAL is a consideration, but I feel he is too young to hold 40% in bonds when he has sufficient
funds in Gic's. Thoughts?
Added, This will be a long term hold.

RBC discount broker
I have finally talked my son into opening an account at a discount broker for his future RRSP
contributions. He is with RBC so that might be the easiest for him.Question: I have recommended XBAL for him, but wonder if this might not be available down the road if banks only sell their in house products. I would like him to move in slowly with no interuptions. Is this going to be possible?

Re: Slightly luxurious car recommendations
2 weeks ago I purchased a 2022 Hyundai Sonata. I traded in a 2018 SUV. The Sonata was close to being the only new vehicle in town, but I'm overly pleased with the purchase. It has a 1.6l turbo with all the extras. Probably the best looking car I've owned. Tesla eat your heart out

AVG free virus
After many many years avg have advised me that today is the last day of their free version. Should I upgrade to their $2.95 a month, or are their other options out there? Appreciate input.
