You're right. Let see if I can find a tutorial on how to post links from articles posted on my TDW account without giving away my ID (???).
Really not sure how that works, not that tech savvy. Any guidance will be appreciated.

Re: Inflation

Major North American stock indexes slipped on Thursday as hotter-than-expected producer prices data likely muddied bets around the timing of the Federal Reserve’s first rate cut and high-flying chip stocks extended their losses.
A Labor Department report showed the Producer Price Index (PPI) rose 0.6% month-on-month in February, compared with a 0.3% increase expected by economists polled by Reuters. It rose 1.6% in the 12 months to February, versus an estimated growth of 1.1%. [The Globe and Mail/ TD Market News]

Still sticky in the USA.

Re: Housing Market 2024

^ Some details: Alberta maintained its status as the province with the fastest-growing rents, with total average asking prices up 20 per cent annually last month to reach $1,708. British Columbia and Ontario posted the slowest growth in February, with annual increases of 1.3 per cent and one per cent, respectively. But the provinces remain Canada's most expensive for renters, with total average asking rents of $2,481 in B.C. and $2,431 in Ontario. On a municipal basis, the largest cities in those two provinces also remain the most expensive major cities to live in Canada for renters. The average asking price for a one-bedroom unit in Vancouver last month was $2,653, down 1.1 per cent from a month earlier, though still 0.5 per cent higher th...

Re: Housing Market 2024

Anew report says the average asking price for a rental unit in Canada was $2,193 per month in February, marking a 10.5 per cent jump year-over-year and the fastest annual growth since September 2023.
The data released Monday by Rentals.ca and Urbanation, which analyzes monthly listings from the former's network, shows the average monthly cost of a one-bedroom unit in February was $1,920, up 12.9 per cent from the same month in 2023. The average asking price for a two-bedroom was $2,293, up 11.3 per cent annually.
The report says asking rents in Canada have increased overall by a total of 21 per cent, or an average of $384 per month, from two years ago, just before the start of interest rate hikes by the Bank of Canada.[The Canadian Press]

Re: Federal Budget 2024

he cost of housing in Canada is outrageous and overall a huge negative to the future of the country. But as a homeowner, I don't care that much to make it a big voting issue for me. Since the older generation tends to own their homes and make up the voting bloc, you can see how very little will change going forward. In my neighborhood, and I suspect many others in the future where the houses have become unaffordable, we are seeing, that instead of an owner selling, they are converting them to rental homes with two units (one up and one down) and collecting rent instead of a sale. The latest city bylaws allow anything. This results in a wholesale change in an otherwise nice neighborhood. Cars, traffic, street parking, etc, etc. My neighborh...

The Bank of Canada today held its target for the overnight rate at 5%, with the Bank Rate at 5¼% and the deposit rate at 5%. The Bank is continuing its policy of quantitative tightening. ... The Bank continues to expect inflation to remain close to 3% during the first half of this year before gradually easing. Governing Council decided to hold the policy rate at 5% and to continue to normalize the Bank’s balance sheet. The Council is still concerned about risks to the outlook for inflation, particularly the persistence in underlying inflation. Governing Council wants to see further and sustained easing in core inflation and continues to focus on the balance between demand and supply in the economy, inflation expectations, wage growth, and ...

Federal Budget 2024

OTTAWA — Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland will present the federal budget on April 16, as cost-of-living issues continue to dominate Canadian politics. "Our economic plan is about building more homes, faster, making life more affordable, and creating more good jobs," Freeland said in a news release on Monday. The spending plan is coming at a time when high interest rates are putting a damper on the economy and ramping up fiscal pressure on the Liberal government. At the same time, the political cost of inaction on housing could be high, as rents skyrocket across the country and homeownership remains out of reach for many Canadians. Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has mounted a fiery attack on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ...

Re: Inflation

A key measure of U.S. inflation rose faster in January than the Federal Reserve would have liked, as policy makers watch for more signs of easing price pressures before they lower interest rates. The personal consumption expenditures price index increased 0.3% last month from December, the Commerce Department said Thursday, in line with the expectations of economists polled by The Wall Street Journal. The closely watched core index, which strips out volatile food and energy prices, rose 0.4%, also matching the economists’ forecast. Over the 12 months through January, the overall PCE price index rose 2.4% while core prices climbed 2.8%. Both of those figures were below economists’ expectations, as the Commerce Department revised down inflat...

Nvidia worth almost as much as the entire Canadian economy:
Technology giant Nvidia is hitting new heights thanks to demand for products connected to artificial intelligence, leading the chipmaker to a market value that this week approached that of the entire Canadian economy.

The California-based company briefly hit $2 trillion US in overall value, or market capitalization, for the first time on Friday, riding on insatiable demand for its semiconductors and chips.

The entire Canadian economy, as measured by GDP, was $2.12 trillion US in 2023 according to the International Monetary Fund.
