Re: Increasing the deductibles

1. Home: we switched from comprehensive coverage to a slightly less comprehensive form, where there are stated limits on what value they will pay for your bike, your artwork, etc. What I really want to protect 100% of is the building. I don't own a $2k TV, or a $5k diamond ring, so the new limits o...

I sold some of my Morneau-Shepell (MSI) to continue adding to Enbridge (ENB). It hurt. MSI has been great for capital gain (I've held it for about seven years from when I first heard about it right here from Scomac  , I believe) but, despite analysts promising dividend increases are "just...

For the purposes of this calculation, do folks aggregate fixed income and equity exposures to the same entity?? Or aggregate exposures through individual holdings and fund holdings?? That's an interesting question. It might also be extended to include related stocks like the Desmarais (PWF-GWO-POW)...

Re: RESP question

So we could contribute 17500+5000= 22500$ today into a RESP for child number 1. Is likely a better idea than making $2500 contributions for the next 7 years? If we make the contributions all at once, if I read it correctly, I miss out on the CESG money 7*500=$3500. So, it seems from what you've sai...

Took the plunge and added a little to BEI.UN @ $39.50. Net asset value is listed around $60. Currently yields 5.73%. I buy with the full realization that it may take a while to come back and that there may be more downside to come but one thing people will always need is a place to live. Ugh. Down ...

True if float is actually decreased and not just put back into the Corp as Treasury shares. Cancelling shares is the best for remaining shareholders since each remaining share has a bigger slice of the company. The biggest issue, as you suggest, is whether the buyback price is low enough to warrant...

..if you are going to have fixed income as part of your overall asset allocation, and if TFSA's are more tax efficient for FI, does it make sense to fill the TFSA first? ..so I meant that you can make 10% in a day on whatever you decided to invest. Look at Tesla was at $313, buy the end of the week it was at $367, STML was at 7.65 then within a month or so was up to 10.40. These are just a couple of the stocks I am involved with and you can easily see the gains. I ...

Re: Should I sell my house and buy a townhouse??

I can only guess that the OP really means one could easily make 10% a year since one could make 10% in a single day provided you are "watching every day". So.. all you need is to be net one good "watchful" day each year and you can make your 10% per annum. This is a confidence that maybe only gets t...

finally and most importantly: dividend stocks are not a substitute for bonds
