Re: RBC DIRECT INVESTING

Well, that was fast. I put an online signatureless [they already have it] application for an RRSP to RBCDI Friday afternoon and just received an e-mail saying it was approved. Now I just have to wait for the transfer from BMOIL to show up. I may RRIF it later this year; I must do so this year or next.

You can also transfer the commuted value to an LRSP/LRIF, which is what I did.

Re: Annuities

I considered annuities but rejected them for the reasons George noted: the costs are not transparent and are probably very high, particularly in a world of $9.95 commissions and 0.05-0.25% ETFs. The choice is likely between an LRIF and leaving as is. If the supplier is a provincial or federal guvmin...

Re: BMO Investorline

Well, I think I gave BMOIL a reasonable chance, but today I initiated a transfer of my RRSP back to RBCDI. There were two factors in the decision: 1. RBCDI covers the withdrawal fees with RRSPs or RRIFs at the Royal Circle level. 2. I could access my RBCDI account when in MX but not the BMOIL RRSP, ...

My bribe was RRSP, shown as a negative fee, and netted out.

Try transferring from on account to the other to net it out.

FWIW, my portfolio yield after today's additions is 3.1%. Since the low interest rate environment began, about 3% has been common for a balanced portfolio.

Re: Start your engines !!!

I do not trade when I am away from home and especially not on unsecured connections I'll probably buy some bargains tomorrow morning but am away on Thursday. I've traded from Honolulu on my laptop, although not from MX, where I will be for a week. However, I see no reason why I can't trade if I wis...

Re: Norbert, your wish has been granted [Vanguard launching cheap balanced index ETFs]

Yes, well, the procedure (in my LRIF) involved the following steps: 1. Sell all VT on a limit bid at the bid. 2. Check sale and amount received. 3. Calculate amount of DLR.U that can be bought, allowing for the commission. 4. Buy DLR.U at limit bid at the ask. 5. Check that the order is complete. 6....

Converted 11% of the total portfolio to VBAL to start the simplification procedure.

Note that at RBCDI MAW104 and Steadyhand funds are not available.
