Re: Canadian Banks

Can the banks repeat their same level of growth over the next 20 to 40 years?
I don't expect them to, but 4% yield + 2% growth + 2% inflation = 8% (6% real). Which ain't bad.

Re: Canadian Banks

Not really one for business television but I did find this interview refreshing in that it's nice to see someone go "off script" so to speak and offer something other than a consensus opinion. Even the host seems taken aback at times. :) Market underestimating amount of leverage any bank has: Dynam...

Re: What constitutes a suitable Moat?

Many moats are unpredictable - a new product that catches on with something that makes it difficult to easily replicate. It's easier to identify established companies that own infrastructure that can't be replicated today - the railroads, for example. But a current moat can be bypassed: emerging cou...

Re: Clippings 2017

Canada can't really support a superstar stock. To make sure you have one, hold VT. Remember what happened not only to Nortel but to Nokia in Finland. The one stock overwhelmed the market and gave too much risk. Only a large economy like the US can really support a superstar. As for Canadian stocks, ...

The 15-Stock Diversification Myth

I assume that's if you use a limit order and change the price. But changing a limit order to a market order would be interpreted as two orders, wouldn't it?

Yes, but the only brokerage account I have at BMOIL is an RRSP and I have no more contribution room. Is there an alternative to writing a cheque to myself and going to BMO to deposit it? Re: Power of Dividend Growth 2011 (and beyond)

As George knows, the median is generally more robust (although slower to converge) than the mean. I might take the median of yearly percentage gains.

My own post-retirement (17 1/2 year) data are:

XIRR: 8.6%
Mean YoY: 8.2%
Median YoY: 8.7%

using end-year YoY gains.

The easiest way to but a couple of hundred hold money in the BMO chequing account still seems to be a cheque deposit.
