Re: Good and/or Underrated Movies and TV shows
Excellent movie! Watched it years ago at a local film festival, had English subtitles. Would love to watch it again but Netflix and the local library do not have English subtitles. Where can I find this movie with English subtitles?Taggart wrote: ↑22 Aug 2018 10:18+1 on Incendies. Watched it yesterday. Check out Incendies, a movie of his from 2010 that was nominated for Best Foreign Oscar. Excellent. Your local library may have it.

Thanks! The site looks very interesting. I have never purchased items from the US, does duty apply?

Just a reminder that Oaken "is powered by Home Trust". Something to consider if you are concerned about CDIC coverage. I think Bylo Selhi is on the mark regarding Oaken/Home Trust eventually/possibly being bought out by one of the big 5!

I can't get on TD Waterhouse website either. Same yesterday until around noon. I don't mind the odd interruption but 2 days in a row!

Ally is a product of Resmor Trust Co. and Resmor Trust Co. is a member of CDIC....so should be no reason to worry unless you have more than $100,000 with Ally.

Re: High Interest Rates for Savings, GICs, MMFs [2012]
PCF is a product of CIBC not a subsidary. Toronto Mortage Corp, for example, is a subsidary (umbrella) of TD. I have just called CDIC and they have confirmed that PCF is not covered separately. So if you have $60,000 with CBIC and $50,000 with PCF you have $10,000 uninsured with the CDIC. I was hoping things had changed!

Re: High Interest Rates for Savings, GICs, MMFs [2012]
Regarding deposits at PCF and CIBC. The CDIC website says: President’s Choice Financial (PCF) is a brand name under which the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) is offering services to shoppers through kiosks at grocery stores under an operating agreement with Loblaws. Therefore, the total of your eligible deposits held with PCF and CIBC would be covered up to a maximum of $100 000 (principal and interest combined). I called CDIC years ago to clarify this and was told PCF and CIBC were considered one as far as the $100,000 limit.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned...I've heard that you do not need a Costco membership to use the pharmacy. Just tell the Costco greeter you are going to the pharmacy and no need to show a card or use one to pay for pharmacy items.

Gic rates at RBC
Has anyone had success at getting higher than board rates when purchasing or renewing GIC's at the Royal Bank? In the past I have had no problem getting 1/4-1/2% above board however lately it's like pulling teeth! First phone call it was board rate only (1 yr @ 1.5%), 2nd call 1 yr. @ 1.6%, 3rd call 1.68% and I am waiting for a call back. Meanwhile I have lost 4 days of interest. Am I the only one being screwed around by the Royal?

My understanding is Ally is not a bank but a 'product of Resmor Trust'. Does anyone know what this distinction means? I do realize Ally is CDIC insured through Resmor Trust-so why are they advertising like they are a bank?

Do secondary market GIC's carry the same guarantee as GIC's purchased from CDIC insured banks? If yes, why are they quoted like bonds, ie: coupon, price, cost and yield?
