Re: We need YOUR help to counter spam

What a deal about nothing. A serious financial forum has reduced itself to discussing the font used in a post?

Re: Oil

Support Alberta's oil sands....just what does that mean? Sorta like the "support our troops" campaign. Of course we should support Alberta oil sands IF they are willing to start cleaning up their act. Is getting this oil out of the ground and selling it as fast as possible really in anybody other than "Big Oil's" interest....long term? We know that "Big Oil" really runs the province.

You said it. If the gov't takes in $10 billion less in taxes then by definition the private sector has $10 billion more to spend. That's all stimulus is. The government tries to pretend that they know what they're doing with our money by specifying some type of projects. The reality is that getting money into the hands of spenders is the best stimulus.
What do you think the government does with your money? It spends it. Stimulus is still provided. If the government has $10 billion more to spend then it can target it where it's needed (theoretically).

Re: OAS Changes Likely?

This is really quite simple. If government expenses are too high then there are two solutions, raise revenue or cut expenses.

OAS is simply another line item, just like new jails and F35s.
Is the present OAS system doing what it was intended to do and doing it efficiently? If not, then fix it.
Are the F35s the best answer for replacement of the F18s? If not, then ditch the contract.
Are more jails the answer to cutting the crime rate? If so, then build them.

So we trust the Harper government to be fiscally responsible on all three of these items?

Re: OAS Changes Likely?

Of course the downside to later retirement is the lack of holes to fill by the younger generation. Unemployment numbers will rise, all else being equal.

Re: Bad Customer Service

Hi Folks.....I need a contact inside President's Choice Financial that I can e-mail and express my displeasure. I stupidly paid a MC bill to Hydro One and have been trying to get the electronic transaction reversed since January 3 to no avail. The policy there seems to be fax and forget. There is no policy of "ownership" of a customer problem to see that the problem is resolved in a timely and efficient manner. Time frames allowed are ludicrous. For example, the up front estimate is 10-15 working days for a reversal. Two days for a "real" supervisor to call you. Anyway, this goes on and on. I may end up resolving this from Hydro One's end but I still want to let PC know how inefficient I think they are. This is my first ...

Re: Good and/or Underrated Movies and TV shows

I remember feeling the same through a movie a number of years ago. The name escapes me at this time but I'm sure others here will know the movie I am talking about. Perhaps it was "War of the Roses" or something like that?

In the last year or two I find that Costco's prices on electronics are not any better than most places elseware. However, for example on computers and televisions, the second year warranty provided by Costco is a bonus.

Re: Mostly Music & Funny Videos. Youtube

My favorite video. It's probably been posted somewhere here before. On Xmas night after dinner, we were sitting around when my daughter started handing out song sheets with the lyrics to all 18 of us. Her boyfriend proceeded to chord with his guitar and we all sang "Cows with Guns". After a couple of lines everybody was in tune and had the song down pat. One of those crazy Xmas things you will never forget. I had no clue she was up to this.

I have a portable USB drive plugged into a Sony Playstation plugged into my TV. The Playstation does BluRay and I can load AVI files, photos, etc. on the external hard drive and the Playstation will play them all on the TV.

I have two external hard drives. One is 1TB and requires external power. The other is 500GB and is powered by the USB cord. The latter seems much slower.

Re: Converting SD-RSP to SD-RIF

I am awaiting the technical details such as.....if there is insufficient cash in my SDRIF account to meet the minimum payout, what is the procedure for making it so? I would assume it is up to me to ensure there is sufficient cash. I would also assume they would have a pecking order and sell securities to meet the payout if there was insufficient cash. When I called, I was told to call back in the New Year for details.

I chose to have a single lump sum transferred Dec. 1, 2012 for no good reason other than additional compounding and it will ensure we have enough to cover Xmas.

I tried to donate this AM and pay by credit card. It refused my donation saying I could not use the credit card if the e-mail address or credit card # was already associated with a Paypal account. I don't want to use Paypal. Am I missing something?

Re: Oil

Yea, I don't quite understand Canadians opposing this project. The pipeline itself (in the USA) is really none of their business. If they want to lobby the governments to force the oil sands to clean up their act then do so but I fail to make the connection between the pipeline and cleaning up the industry.

Re: What's up with Flahtery pension plan ?

I thought the purpose of this whole exercise was to ensure that more seniors had enough income to live adequately without government assistance, not to give more tax breaks to those that don't need the extra income in their retirement. It will be a failure in achieving what I thought the purpose was but will no doubt be effective in reducing government income.

Watched Inglourious Basterds, the 2009 version from DVD last night. Very memorable and also a very strange and "different" movie.
