Re: BCE (Symbol-BCE)

Volume today was huge, for both BCE and Telus.

Which makes me think that I should invest not in the telecoms but in the online brokers. :)

Re: BCE (Symbol-BCE)

Look on the bright side. The heavy volume today suggests BCE is not only being sold; it's being bought.

Re: BCE (Symbol-BCE)

I don't think it makes much sense to sell now. Much of the damage has been done (?). In the short term, it looks way oversold.

BCE is still a large blue chip with quality assets and cash flow.

It's just a sad story. I for one expected BCE to be boring, sleep-well-at-night, "widows and orphans," low volatility, etc.

Not another AQN :(

Re: BCE (Symbol-BCE)

BCE is trading as if there has already been a dividend cut.

Re: BCE (Symbol-BCE)

I seem to recall the CEO of Algonquin making some relatively large purchases in late 2022 as AQN was tanking, and some then pointed out this was a sign of insider confidence, the market was mistaken. A few months later a strategic review was announced and the dividend was cut.

Re: BCE (Symbol-BCE)

Maybe we should start a new thread for "Norm's top 20."

I own several of them, and they've done well, but greater diversification is much on my mind.

Re: BCE (Symbol-BCE)

Unfortunately for "us," BCE is held in several accounts, and in some it's under water. But I'll discuss it with all concerned and hopefully come to a decision soon.

Re: BCE (Symbol-BCE)

For Altared,

Behind a wall, but the gist is that BCE cannot afford the dividend and should be cutting it, not raising it:
If the company’s leaders were prudent, they’d accept the new reality and realize a reset is in order. The aristocratic era of BCE dividends is over, because its cash flow makes it a commoner now.

Re: What and why did you sell? What might you sell? (2024)

Governments are supposed to not affect the market all that much because they are short lived (1-2 terms) but our government has been especially punitive towards our corporate sector for 8+ years now, as in big bad banks, big bad telecoms, greedy grocers, evil O&G and inability to get pipelines in the ground in a cost effective and timely manner. There isn't much in our primary economic base the government has not introduced headwinds on, so I am not convinced the TSX will "shine" this year. Took the words out of my mouth. But before I go into a raging rant, I'll just post the recent sales: Out of my mom's RRIFs that I manage, in order to pay for the mandatory withdrawls, I sold TD and BCE. The former had been held for a long ...
