The banks and cnr are down a little bit relative to the rest of the market these past few months. So I've been rereading the thread to get a sense of what if anything I might do about it. The trade off is there concentrate or diversify. Comes down to what percent is your percentage depending on your...

Re: Assessing Utilities

Mawer, mutual fund managers, had a story on this sort of thing in their insights. They had some German nuclear plants and then came the political side of Fukushima. It's called the 'stroke of the pen risk'. I thought this sort of quasi black swan thing might be good to include int he discussion. htt...

I just saw I've been here 10 years and few days. Missed the rollover, kinda like the car a 100,000 someone pulls a stunt in front of you and you miss it. Learned a lot and it doesn't feel like ten years. In hindsight was a good time to commiserate given how things unraveled for a while.

I was disappointed the table didn't have a 'congratulations you won' spot when it turned from 99 to 100. I suppose in most cases 100 is a curse. Thanks for the chart link, it's kinda comforting in a confusing world.

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV's) and their impact on Canadian energy companies?

Downloaded the report and will at least read the exec summary besides the news reports. Will cherry pick the dull stuff. I saw the words ''The end of private car ownership' tossed in there somewhere along with a 8 year time frame(nuts for time frame me thinks). mmm I do recall a quote by Frank Zappa...

I've set a couple hisa accounts up for my non sheltered money and squeezing a little bit more. I've got a bit of dough spread across rrsp and tfsa at TD broker using the house product tdb5180(?pretty sure that's it) at 0.0075. For the adventuresome, TD spit out a paper today calling it a Speculative buy with one year outlook of 150%.

I am thinking that the difference between an adventure and an expedition is planning :)

Thanks for the info and ideas folks. I have TD broker to BMO personal chequing set up. Was looking to streamline to TD to EQ or Alterna directly. As I suspected it might be more trouble than it's worth for the number of movement I plan. Another alternative could be just stuff my pockets with twentie...

Fascinating link. A small sample of people but... the older they were the more likely to be a bit more cautious or at least not chugging the cool-aide with one hand not both. Made me think back to the trade show scene in 'the big short'.

While I'm thinking of it. Read a weird thing about Quebec. Seems they are starting to completely ban car washing at home. Various municipalities puting in laws against it to curb soaps and run offs etc. So seems ATD is adding carwashes in various spots. I've not googled it up but took the story from...

Even when more electric cars arrive...there arn't many of the 'fast' charging spots. I wonder how many owners will meander into the store and pass time buying stuff.

I like the long charts where world wars and plagues are 2 mm high dimples. So... A lot of agony over buying Monday at $137 or Wed at $135 or Friday at $142. Getting 'the price'. I've had 4 Toyota's. I'd agree theres usually no magic 2 year deal. I did get a decent demo once, 2 new, only 1 used three years old. Worth looking for the exception to thr rule but I've found i could get a fresh unsquashed seat that way.

I ran across this and thought it was handy. https://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/data-chart-center/interest-rates/Pages/Historic-Yield-Data-Visualization.aspx In January with no green grass or fun distractions, reading and learning about the yield curve is further up the fun list than it usually...
