Re: TFSA Contribution 2018

If you need a spreadsheet to track your TFSA withdrawals and deposits IMO you might not be using it to its full advantage, if you use a checking account instead no need for spreadsheet.

Sold a bunch of stuff last week, profit taking, tax loss selling, rebalancing, churning some or all of the above.

Sold KO,CWB,VYM,PAYX,BMO, DII and TA

Still to go DIS, GG, FCX, ENB.PR.V and a tad more DII didn't get up early enough on Moanday to get all gone at rally pricing.

Re: Are we too old, crusty and conservative

I'm thinking about adding a line in my IPS no individual stocks in registered accounts :? ... except, presumably, when executing Norbert's gambit. George Gall darn it all now I may have to add two lines no gambit in registered accounts. I belong to an investment club not sure what the average...

Re: Dogs of the TSE

So after a lot of deliberating, I decided that less rules is better. The only rule that consistently produced better returns is limiting the pool to top 40 stocks and that's what I've done. So you picked a strategy and decided to follow it with no "buts". So often you hear I'm following ...

You either get the best service or the best price the two IMO seldom go together. I'm sure the CIBC branch manager would have taken your money, maybe even bought you a coffee, but not at 3%. I'm waiting for my stupid box of chocolates from Oaken again this year  something about a tree last ye...

Re: How Many Stocks In A Portfolio?

No more then 30, because beyond that you are splitting up your portfolio into too many bits & pieces for no measurable benefit. Well that's one way to look at it. I'm doing a little bit of a portfolio review at the moment, I have 36 Individual Canadian stocks . The bottom 11 make up 1/2 to 1% of th...

Re: Enbridge (Symbol-ENB)..are we getting close to a buy???

I am mulling over the idea of selling a loser in my spouses account and (by means of an identical purchase) transfering her loss to me and then selling off some of my ENB. StuBee: Are you describing deliberately triggering the superficial loss rule to accomplish this? (I hadn't thought of that befo...

Re: Belairdirect Car insurance renewal after takeover of CDI

Brian was not clear but I think this is for the portion above and beyond the ICBC mandated minimum. There would be another $400-500 of ICBC minimum. Ah yes sorry that's on top of standard ICBC which was $1139 for basic with full discount for one year  $1626 for one year with ICBC and Belair. ...

Re: Belairdirect Car insurance renewal after takeover of CDI

have been long time CDI customer for car insurance, primarily due to it being cheaper than ICBC for the same coverage. When renewal came up a month ago I noticed a significant increase. Compared with ICBC at renewal time, ICBC was cheaper for optional. So switched to ICBC. We have home insurance wi...

If you checked into DGS you would see they have paid monthly .10 distribution every month for the past 10 years. I began buying 16 months ago, without trading it , you would be up over 50% from that point. I have reduced and bought back in after the offerings. I am sure there is some risk here, but...

Ouch!!! May '17 $412.00, May '16 $384.04 and May '15 $384.04 for my Jeep GC. Wife records difficult to access ;-) Thanks for the wake-up call. Buyer beware. Although in my defense I think ICBC wanted about $550.00 for the same coverage. Well 10% isn't so bad but 26% in one year is a bit much I thin...

Belairdirect Car insurance renewal after takeover of CDI

Anybody try to renew their car insurance with Belairdirect that were once Canadian Direct customers? Website not working, policy written wrong, $487 instead of $387 spent 45 minutes on the phone trying to correct this, that looks like about a 20% 26% increase to me. Looks like I'm not alone https://...

Graham, and others, have written that between 10 and 30 issuers should provide adequate diversification
Provide adequate diversification compared to what - the US market, World markets?

If XIU is 60 and DIA is 30 I like 45 as a nice round number.

I was wondering what sectors would look like mixed with different ETF's, 40% XAW with 20% XEI, XIC or VCN not a whole lot of difference. You should verify all data.
