Re: Total Return or Distribution Income in Retirement

She spoke with The American College on these matters in an interview from 2012. I will summarize her key points here. He didn't write it and doesn't say if he agrees or not. I found it a very generalized article which could be countered many ways by individual circumstances or desired outcomes hard...

Has anyone linked Td brokerage Canadian investment cash account and Alterna bank or EQ bank. Any tips on setting it up. Often requested a void cheque sort of thing and no such thing for the Td. Not sure what you mean by this. I am at TDW with a linked checking account to another big 5 bank. I have ...

Re: Financially uninterested spouse inheriting stock portfolio

IMHO almost equally important is you have someone in place as an advocate for health care before death. A spouse who has to handle the grief of someone being sick or incapacitated may need help to maintain finances as well not only in death. The bad part you may be just lucid enough to see financial...

Does anyone have a quick and simple rule to ascertain when the negative effect of accumulation of zero contribution years outweighs the positive effect of CPP postponement? Am I getting close? Yes. Keep in mind there's a different amount for the provincial credit, too. Well I see that option but on daughter's 2015 carry forward from Ufile there is only one box with $10,500 in it Provincial box is empty and on Daughters Notice of Assessment it says she has unuse...

Re: Claiming educational expenses of a student.

This should be an easy question. My daughter has a $10500 Tuition carry forward from 2015. She made about $40,000 last year so she has to use the whole $10,500 for 2016? If some of the carry forward reduced her tax to zero then the remainder could have been carried forward to 2017? Am I getting clos...

Re: CPP Deferral debate - Fred Vettese article discussion

I guess a rather obvious thing about delaying CPP & OAS at anytime within the CPP & OAS rules you can change your mind. If you decide to draw it down sooner than the latest time possible maybe no harm. Lots of investment decisions don't seem to have this option.

What he just showed up at the door one night unannounced, smart, did he come in as well sit and chat? (aka have a look around)

He wasn't going to renew if that new clause wasn't ticked and initialed. If no one renews it went to a month to month before you signed the new clause, you didn't want month to month? This was only a 5% drop for TD, on average there are three 5% drops per year over the last 110 years, someone ring a bell when it breaks $55.

Don't see this listed but I may have missed it being reported. Coca Cola (NYSE: KO) declared a quarterly dividend of $0.37 per share, or $1.48 annualized. This is a 5.7% increase from the prior dividend of $0.35. This was the company's 55th consecutive annual dividend increase. The dividend will be ...

More simply put Tied selling in the context of Canadian banks is telling a client the bank will only approve a mortgage if the client moves their investments to the bank or its subsidiary. Saying the client can get a better rate if they move the busiess is not tied selling but bund...

My experience on the front lines and in talking to former colleagues is that there is a lot of pressure for sales quotas on tellers.
I don't get much any hassle from Tellers, mostly from small Branch managers and one level below.

I'm starting to find that $2 here or there is really minor in the overall gains of the portfolio. If your talking about an overall transaction on $5 - 10,000 sure $2.00 isn't much if your refering to per share that's a little different. I hold just over a total of 40,000 shares (all shares in each ...

At these interest levels FI is useless in taxable accounts once you tax it back each year and adjust for risk, and I am completely unwilling to commit new funds at historic market levels.
Everyone is in the same boat, breaking even or eeking out a 1-3% real return is all I hope for.

I will guess James doesn't like them because they are 5 year money (likely to be called) and thus quite like 5 year GICs. These seem like souped-up rate resets to me. But if rates were to start rising rapidly, it could be worthwhile for them not to cash out, if I understand them correctly. Seems un...
