When you transfer assets in kind from non registered to TFSA would you not , from a tax perspective, consider these same assets as sold and pay capital gains? Pay yearly if you do yearly?rbreeze wrote: ↑09 Mar 2024 12:47 I'm 67 years old and I want the additional tax-free income. As well, at the beginning of the new year, my TFSA contribution room increases by an additional $15,600 (plus whatever the announced contribution allowance is for a given year) and I can move $15,600 worth of ETFs (in-kind) from my non-registered cash account into my TFSA account. This action works, year after year, to incrementally decrease the tax bill for my non-registered account and increase my holdings (and income) in my TFSA.

Re: Nurse Practitioners / Physician Assistants
I am in a group family practice in Ontario with eight other physicians. We recently hired a physician assistant to be shared between me and one other physician. She is allowed to write prescriptions and see patients independently and review with us afterwards. She’s not allowed to write prescriptions for controlled substances, however.

I am currently within three or four years of retiring. Currently can live on dividends alone with the current yield is 4 1/2 to 5% of the portfolio. What would the forum say I should withdraw from my portfolio in addition to these dividends, if I want to de-accumulate in my retirement?

I certainly enjoy the Canadian dividend tax credit, with a single T5 slip at tax time.
No T3 slips, no 'foreign income', no 'return of capital', no 'other income', no 'reinvested capital gains', no 'special distribution', and no 'phantom capital gain'.
Very simple portfolio of equal sectors. Over a decade of beating the index.

I too am 100 percent Canadian blue chip
I can’t pm you but would you mind sharing you top 20 holding to see if I am missing something?

Bought HEQT today
Put limit order in last week for 13.69
Was filled earlier this afternoon
Currently an all Canadian large cap dividend portfolio across all accounts including Corporation.
Low cost all in one ETF. Needed to look for more capital gains and US and foreign exposure.
Hopefully has little in the way of distributions.

You may wish to use the Financial Assumption Guidelines for your assessment, or Norm's Asset Mixer for historical periods to project the future, or?

Interest rate currently 6.95%SQRT wrote: ↑14 Aug 2023 12:58 Really depends on your view of future markets I think. If your margin loan is at prime (fully deductible) and your div yield (after tax) is around 2- 3%, there will be a 1%-2% or so deficiency. Do you expect the markets to go up by more than that? How much risk do you feel comfortable with? How leveraged is the portfolio?
is is currently 8 percent leverage in this account
3 percent across all accounts
Paying 1 or 2 percent margin loan interest rate as seems a no brainier but at 7 percent I'm not so sure.
Was thinking of buying hgro with new money. Not adding to loan amount just not paying it off with new money.

Margin Loan Interest Rates
At what sort of interest rate does paying interest on a margin not make sense to buy all in one ETF like like veqt?
Would not be in a registered account
In other words, should I pay my margin loan down or continue to use my margin to buy equities?
Thanks

So essentially what we’re saying is all the underlying ETFs in VGRO or tgro do not have any expenses/ no mers at all and I only pay .15% total plus operating costs and HST.

I noticed that Toca or T gro was made up of 10 TD ETFs. Am I right in assuming I’m only paying A TOTAL MER of .15% ? not .15% plus whatever the other ETFs charge?

Re: Cellphones 2023 and onwards [and plans]
I have a Google seven Pro which I really like. It is android-based. Never had any problems with it. I believe was about $700 on sale. I’ve used E Sims in Europe a couple of times with no issues. I use the Apple app for music on the android phone with no issues and I can also connect Apple earbuds to my android and no problems.
A couple of members of my household use Apple products, and I use an Apple iPad but I’m not a huge supporter mostly because I don’t own any of the stock.
And lastly, I try not to fiddle with staff because it could get me into trouble.

These problems are one of my greatest headaches when I travel. I'm not sure of the technology behind a text/ and SMS or a push notification etc. When I travel I'm not sure if I should buy an esim data only for Europe or a buy a phone data and text ESIM for Europe.
Last time I went I bought an eSIM for all three just for my wife's phone and then I was able to hook up through a hotspot and it seemed to work okay with SMS/ push notifications on my phone

Re: ETF for “Rothery Stable Dividend Portfolio”?
I had a look at the 20 stocks in norm's stable dividends screen. Seems to be a lot of utilities and financial/ life cos. Of the 20. I own eight. The current yield on the 20 stocks is approximately 4.8% which is high. you invest 5% in each stock and once a year rebalance. I do like most of the names though
If I don't like a name, am I allowed to kick it out?
What names don't you like?

Hey Mr. Mike ,
It's not off the table because the market's down as I realize that everything is down. Its off the table because of the high MER and the possibility that it's just return of capital that's a bulk of the 14 or 15% yield
If somebody can explain to me how to obtain a 15% yield just using covered calls with no margin without any return of capital then I might consider buying it. But unfortunately I don't think anyone will be able to do that. I do like the underlying constituents and I would think I should be able to get those with the invesco ETF
