Bed bugs

Our house has come down with bed bugs.We are not sure where we got them. a couple of thoughts are :: books from our public library
Used Books recently purchased from from a local store.
Regardless of the source of these books. We are having a real tough time getting rid of them.
We first discovered them in june and they are still with us.
We have hired a pest contron company but they have reduced the the numbers but are still billing us.
Does anyone have a company they can recommend??
Is the expense for removing these bugs tax deductabole or covered by insurance?
All suggestions will be greatly appreciated

Re: 5 new born racoons

Well thanks everyone for your comments. What I ended up doing is this:
I took all 5 babies out of the nest ( a composter given away by city) and tossed them onto the lawn (shovel
Within an hour the mother hd them all back in the composter.
Today I took them all out of the composter.
Mother comes along and gets the message. She hauls all five babies off somewhere else.
Not really satisfactory ending but what else could I do.

ps I have enough hats!!

5 new born racoons

Any suggestions what I do with these animals. I am afraid tht they will do damage when they grow up.For instance I have a neighbour ,who had racoons in his attack. He ended up with roof repairs nd wiring problems.

Suggestions?

Re: TFSA

Based on the new budget. Does it mean that people can increase their TFSA contribution to $10,000.00 in 2015.

Merged into TFSA 2015 thread. The answer(?) is in this thread

I am in favour of the full name. Posters should try and communicate as clearly and concisely as possible. A poster should make his/her message as clear as possible

Re: BCE (Symbol-BCE)

Another option that BCE would have is to buy Manitoba Telephone.
This might be a more viable purchase than Bell Alient?
Dose this make sense ?

Re: Preferreds

What I am thinking is that if you look at the premiums that I have on my preferreds now couple with the effective rate of return my rate return going forward has been rduced. Therefore , I think if i take the premium now I can invest this money at a lower rate and still come close to the same overall return. In addition , I will be able to get rid of the perpetuals.

Re: Preferreds

Thank you Scomac
Your comments are very true especially with the rest preferreds issued by BCE.I also agree that bonds are not paying much in interest as well.
The market is not offering much these days unless I want to go to lower quality investments
I am thinking in line with preferreds that are @ par ( if such an animal still exist) or common stock with good dividends. ( Banks and Utilities)

Re: Preferreds

Thank you for your comments guys. I am in a position that the majority of these preferreds are presently at a premium to par. Because the issurer or inflation could wipe out that premium I would like to take the premiums before they disappear .

Re: Preferreds

I have a number of perpetuals that are at a premium to par. I am considering selling these and re-investing the proceeds in common stock or reset preferreds.
Any suggestions on which preferreds and/or commom stock fpr a senior looking for income and maybe some growth

Thank you

Re: Taxfreeway 2011

I am trying to make a decision between Turbo Tax and Tax Freeway.
I am going to need to enter into either product some balance forward from previous year returns such as medical credits and tax loses.
I run a small lawn care business and will need to be enter data for this business. Like most of the people here I have a fairly active investment portfolio . The product selected must be able to handle a significant volume of transactions. Filing my return is not an issue for me.
Thank you for your input

Re: Perpetual Preferred Shares

AsI said earlier I would not invest more than 10 to 20 % in these preferreds. Also please keep in mind that historically getting a 6 to 8 % return is the norm.

Perpetual Preferred Shares

Presently , I hold a number of perpetual preferred shares. I have purchased them knowing that if interest rates move up my principle will go down and the dividends will not be as attractive as they are now. However, given there present attractive yields they do look and/or are quite attractive. I have been looking at the yields in comparison with historic yields on the markets and find that effective rates of 6% plus are quite attractive. The companies that I am investing are all very high quality with very strong credit ratings. The negative to all this is if interest rates go up to the high levels that we had in the early 80's I will take quite a beating. But , that only lasted for a few years and than returned to more normal historic yie...

PC Appliations on an Apple Imac

PC Applications on an Apple Imac

I have recently purchased an Imac. I am debating whether I should transfer over to the Imac a number of my PC based applications.
The apple store personnel told me that my Imac would be succeptible to virus etc and I should install a virus checker. Discussions with others indicated that the performance of my Imac would be considerably slower. Has anyone here done this and would they please share there findings with me.

Re: Bad customer service

Hi Folks
Since people were talking about skype. I have a few questions that someone may be so kind as to answer. We are looking into getting skype on one of our computers . We have a a PC and an apple IMAG .
(1) Can I use the feature on the apple to communicate with a skype user?
Can skype be added to an IMAG
(2) If I add skype to my PC will I need to get a camera?
(3) What are the costs of each option ?

Thank you
