Hey Crew. Its been about 8 years since I last did a NG.
I now own a US company, have an investment account with RBCDI and looking to convert USD to CDN
Best steps? Use a TD or RBC on US side and sell straight up on the CDN side is what I heard you can do with RBCDI?
Is there a better way? More efficient?
Bank rate today at RBC is $1.2347, RBDI is $1.26515, Spot Rate looks like $1.2690

Not a shock where the biggest segment of our 2020 gain came from. Sold 60% of my allocation to FTT today. Backed up the in March and now back above its January level. Marks the 3rd time this stock has been a great load up since 2008

Hello Friends....I've been a little busy this year building a new company and there's this thing called "KOVID" I've heard about?
Not to minimize things, but I'm at 25% cash, 20.5% gain for the year, and looking for places to deploy.
I do need to update all my spreadsheets, but any screaming deals or things I should know about before diving into reports, data, and company updates?

No one really knows if its capitulation until a few days after, but that sure did look like it today. Tomorrow could be worse as everyone simply wants to be out and lock in remaining gains before more bad news hits over the weekend.

I'll be very active in the market tomorrow on my individual positions, but holding off on the market ETF's until I see some stability.
I'm in the US with the fam, but will be adding to my banks, utilities, some consumer stocks and my favourites.

Popcorn is ready & I'm enjoying the show. Today was simply people selling their positions due to borrowed money.
A few things on my watchlist caught my attention. I read my diary from 2008 and it told me not to care yet.
At some point, companies will realize all of their bone-headed decisions and overreactions to the COVID-19 will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Q1 earnings won't even show the worst of it and that's when I'm expecting the market & investors will really react.

Added to my position in CPX.
Been a good little buy from just over $17 to here. Still good value given the growth profile. Purchased in RESP account.

Re: Canadian Banks
Are you suggesting that they expand domestically in the USA and overpay (premium) for assets that are only regionally diversified? Compete on scale against RY or TD by competing on price? Become more aggressive and take on risk far greater than CM & BMO over the past 20 years?

-Near 52-week low, so hoping for some capital appreciation
-I don't see that price as a company specific problem since all my other insurance holdings have experienced large price declines
-6.75% dividend
-the dividend is well covered at about 60% of EPS
- BV Growth
- Growth in ROE

I sold PWF for tax loss and likely will go right back into it again. I just can't break my DDCF model to not show this stock is of decent value. I agree with the talking heads that I have no idea what the stimulus for value could be other than it returns decent BV growth and ROE. Maybe its simply interest rates rising or growth in Asia but to get steady growth with a P/E of ~9-10 is something that's not easy to find in this market.JaydoubleU wrote:...POW/PWF. I sold POW back in October thinking I'd never buy it again. Now I'm looking at the incredibly cheap prices and hearing that siren song...What to do today, what to do . . .

Started my rebalancing a little early for some segments of the portfolio.
Topped up with adds to established positions in IPL & BNS in the collective RESP as their respective weightings have dropped vs. the rest of the stocks there. Timeline is 12-20 years for earliest withdrawal.

Wake me up when the sky is falling......2000-2001 & 20008-2009 taught me to pay little attention to the noise and instead focus on when investors aren't fearful or worried, in denial or pessimistic but instead when they capitulate. That is where the real bargains appear. If you have a portfolio of high quality assets, the produce income, you're diversified against risk (all types) and have a long-term view nothing should really change. If you're selling out of a position at this point you weren't married to it which I would argue means you shouldn't have been in that investment or you didn't perceive the true risk. Even if this is a market adjustment, great....nothing goes straight to the sky. I liked Buffett yesterday (on CNBC?): He's ...

Little housekeeping with trims to the portfolio to bring some leaders back into allocation:
WSP, GIB.A, CPX & CNR
Didn't have a ton to capture tax loss selling but did completely exit out of PWF. Other than the dividend the past few years its been a dead stick floating in stagnant water. Really surprised its not been able to get a catalyst for growth but I'll observe over the next 30 days and assess.

And with reference to rising interest rates the yield has room to go up based on historical data. I'm at a full position with no intention on adding at these levels.

After 2008 no dividend is completely safe. That being said I continue to hold the company and like it long-term. Best move of 2016-2017 was overweighting this position back under $18
