Re: Preferreds
Last week I bought the other min. reset, EMA.PR.H, that recently reset at 6.25%. It's now paying $ 1.58 until 2028, that's 8.23% on the purchase price of $ 19.20.

Re: High interest savings, GICs and MMFs (2023)
Bought some RBF2010 in a corporate account, wasn't aware of it but currently pays 4.55%, no trade fee, interest calculated daily and paid the last day of the month. I didn't find anything paying a higher rate without locking in to a GIC. BMO High Interest Savings Account (BMT104) is paying even more @ 4.85% :D Not at RBC DI. They won't let anyone buy competitor ISAs, nor Cash ETFs. However, RBC DI may permit the purchase of some competing MMFs like the CIB ones previously mentioned. Sounds good so I logged in to my RBCDI acct and was going to purchase some CIB237 but they want a $ 50 fee to purchase $ 10k. I didn't go any further because the .0038 difference just isn't worth it, especially if they charge another $ 50 upon selling. I think ...

Thanks Clason, that certainly explains why a difference does occur at times and Bloomberg would be the site to rely on .

Interesting because I've always referred to the investing.com site in the past and noticed that my units would generally reset below their 5 year bond quotes. Not a big difference, but I always wondered why.PrefPundit wrote: ↑17 Jul 2023 15:06 rhenderson . . . yea, investing.com seems to quote higher than any others I've seen . . . at this moment (3:04PM), investing.com is quoting 3.829, and tradingview is quoting 3.792. I think we need to advise all companies that are resetting to use investing.com exclusively!

Re: Preferreds
Sorry, I should have said selling at 26.5-27 instead of saying "trading", I never pay more than 20 cents over par for a pref and that
is only for a P-2 rated one. P3's I rarely buy and only below par.
Thanks for your insights, much appreciated.

Re: Preferreds
Thanks for the insight, makes sense. In my case they are held in a taxable account so along with the dividend credit they pay as far as I'm concerned a fair deal along with some of the HISA accts.
If interest rates do fall to zero and the units aren't called, the min rate will be relevant. If they are called I'll have a capital gain to compensate.
At least that's my reasoning.

Well of course, that's an inherent characteristic of all prefs and anyone that isn't aware of that shouldn't be in prefs in the first place.

Re: Preferreds
JMO,but right now the pref market is completely stupid !!
Example is the units of CU.PR.I presently trading below $ 23, I have been adding at these levels but now I have a full position
and will just wait and collect the dividends. Two years ago I was trading this between $26.5 and 27 and then wait until it
would drop again close to par.
It's P-2 rated, has a 369 point reset and has a floor in case someday we go back to the days of super low resets that many of us can remember.
What am I missing ?

Re: Consequences of holding certain ETF's in registered accounts
There are a lot of obscure, subtle investing issues that make only small differences to overall long-term results. A low-cost, broadly diversified portfolio with an asset allocation aligned with your risk tolerance is the main part of the investing battle. Perfect is the Enemy of Good . You can waste a lot of time searching for the best portfolio, leaving funds in cash or making mistakes. The results of your investing strategy and tactics can really only be assessed ex-post, when only your beneficiaries will benefit from it (or not as the case may be). That's why so many here advocate for asset allocation ETFs. Thanks for your help and sharing your knowledge, much appreciated. My largest holdings would be VBAL & VEQT in that order and ...

Re: Consequences of holding certain ETF's in registered accounts
Thanks for all of the answers, I've never held XRB in a registered account (even though after following the thread, perhaps I should have) so I wasn't aware of the machinations of the distributions in the different types of accounts.

Re: Consequences of holding certain ETF's in registered accounts
A reinvested distribution is similar to a unitholder receiving a cash distribution then reinvesting it themself into more units. They are not losing anything. The main difference is the unitholder could only purchase full units leaving the rest in cash, whereas the fund can reinvest 100% of the distribution, leaving no excess cash. Why are you looking at XIN? XEF is a newer EAFE fund with 5x the assets. XIN has high fees. XIN MER is 0.49%, compared to XEF at 0.2% XEF is more diversified into smaller companies. XIN has 801 holdings compared to XEF with 2648. It might not make much difference, but why not take more diversification at a lower fee XIN is hedged, which has costs. If you want a hedged fund, XFH is a hedged version of XEF. https:...

Consequences of holding certain ETF's in registered accounts
After reviewing the latest ACB's on my broker's statements I was wondering about holding something like XIN in a registered account.
I noticed that XIN had a $ 2.26 reinvested distribution per unit. Now while this is fine in a non-registered account wouldn't it be a complete loss if held in a registered account like an RRSP or even a TFSA or am I missing something ?

Thanks for the correction,my bad, the amount was on my 2022 T-3 slip. Now my problem is still with RBCDI because my ACB is exactly the same as it was on my Sept 2022 statement.

Re: VBAL Everywhere
On Jan 5 2023 there was a non-cash distribution for XIC of $ 1.07857 /unit so it's a fair amount for an ACB
and it will show up as "Other Income" on the 2023 T-3 slip.
The ACB adjustment to book usually shows up in April or May, so far mine hasn't been done in my non-registered account.

Have you checked your accounts lately ?
RBCDI updated the ACB's for my TFSA and RRSP accounts in May but didn't bother with my non-registered accounts.
When I phoned to inquire, the rep was at a loss as to why and said that perhaps they are not done at the same time.

Re: VBAL Everywhere
I always do my own ACB's and they usually match the broker's T5008 but if they don't and there's a
significant difference CRA may question mine, a real PITA for nothing.
In Jan 2003 quite a few of the BlackRock etf 's had re-invested distributions so that's why I wondered
if anyone else had the same problem.Distributions that were declared in Dec 2022 and paid in Jan 2023

Re: VBAL Everywhere
Thanks for the reply. I wasn't worried about VBAL because of the miniscule adjustment but I do hold XRB in a non-registered account and on
Jan 5 2023 there was a non cash distribution of $ 1.67194 so on my 2023 tax return I will have to pay tax on $ 1671.94 that is classed as
"Other Income" on the T-3 because I'm holding 1000 units.
My book cost is presently the same as it was in Sept 2022 so they still haven't made any adjustment.

Re: VBAL Everywhere
Anyone here with RBCDI ?
In my registered accounts the ACB for VBAL and other ETF's and equities that incurred non-cash distributions
has been done in May.
But in my non-registered accounts, NOTHING has been done. The rep is at a loss as to why and said that perhaps
they are just doing the adjustments at a different time.
I don't really need the ACB for my TFSA account but I sure as hell need it for my non-registered accounts at tax time.

One reason that I don't have any 3 or 5 year GIC's . I hope my concern is unfounded, but most of my portfolio is
in VEQT and VBAL, RRB's, Hi interest saving accounts and some gold exposure.

Bought more CU.PR.I below $ 24. It resets in 2025 and has a spread of 369.It also has a floor of 4.5 so if the 5yr GOC collapses I'm covered.
This is one of the few P-2 prefs left with a fairly high spread and a floor, most of my others have been called in the past year or so.

Re: Preferred share redemptions
The preferred share market doesn't seem to be an efficient market. Thanks, that made me laugh out loud. You didn't say if these were investment grade or what the current yield is. I'm at a loss to explain how resets are priced except perhaps they are anticipating much higher 5 year bond yields. 8% would seem to be a pretty good deal for investment grade as compared to investment grade bonds. I have quite the opposite view, seems to me that the market doesn't believe that the upward 5 year trend will continue or hold, ergo, no support. Doesn't really bother me, I hold mainly P-2's, medium to high spreads and will hold them regardless. As in 2008 when this blows over they should recover and then some. If the war in Ukraine worsens, our prefs...

I'm a retail investor that trades often in thinly traded P2 prefs that sometimes don't trade on the TSX for days but do trade on the other exchanges. Quite often the TSX quotes, bid and ask, are quite different from the action occurring on the other exchanges. That's where
