Re: Home Capital Group (Symbol-HCG)

If people aren't comfortable plunking down their savings to buy a gic from this company, then they have no money to loan out at a profit. Thus no business going forward. I am sure it is a comfort knowing you might have cdic coverage for deposits under 100k but does anybody know the timeline for such...

Re: To retire/stay home or not

A toxic workplace is not very good for anyone's health. Your adrenal glands will thank you for the wise decision to head for the door... That's why it is good to have money put aside so you always have options open to you.
Well done e-girl and family!

Re: how do you guys negotiate with car salesman to buy new car?

I shopped around for my Rav4, and eventually found one with 4000km at a dealership. Saved me several thousand dollars from buying one here- although I did have to put in block heater. ( they actually start quite well without plugging in due to remarkable viscosity of synthetic oils used today...!)

Re: Trying to get mortgage for 1970 mobile home

When I was a single mom (30 years ago!) I went to my local credit union and spoke to an idiot who said the trailer on the land I was purchasing was too old to qualify for a mortgage, I then went the the royal bank, where the nice intelligent employee said I could get half the amount as a low rate cm...

You would want the insuance company's definition of resident first- who would want to pay for premiums for insurance that might not pay out when you did have a claim?

I have been weeding through old income tax files and drawers. It feels very productive! No door to door anybody here-I have the Princess of the Pyrenees on guard in my yard. Better than a moat! She will be moving to the barnyard when lambing begins. I should make a recording of her barking and have ...

Re: Putting your eggs in two baskets

I have dealings with 4 or 5 institutions, some are just vestigal. I opened an account at the credit union to get a yearly discount on my property insurance but now am moving my PT tfsa there because of the 2% term deposit rate. They will phone in December and offer you that rate and if it goes up in...

Re: What is formula for calculating pensionable service?

Your basic medical is variable depending on the province you live in. In BC, the annual premium varies from $460-$900/year, depending on your annual income, probably based on your income from the previous year. Additional coverage- dental, extended health, etc. could be obtained from an insurance co...

Regarding winter storage of engines- I put fuel stabilizer in all the tanks, 2 and 4 cycle -every fall, have never had an issuestarting up in the spring. A tank full of fuel gets no condensation.

Toyata made the matrix, a med./ small station wagon, until 2014. Must be a few used models out there. It was also a GM vibe under their fittings. Toyota also has a Venza station wagon. My old highlander was classed as a station wagon since it had only a front wheel drive train.

Re: Telephone scams

Card was Canadian, being used in Canada, PI. Sad to say, the phishing scammers already have my name, credit card #, all they are after is the 3 or four digit code on the back of the card. Oh well, credit card is defunct now. Hard to believe this particular phone number has been in use for many years...

Re: Telephone scams

If it was an American toll free number maybe that's why the Canadian service centre didn't know anything about the Carribean cruise contest? When I did a google search, I did turn up one reference to that same phone number as a scam-from 2010... Makes you wonder. Am getting new card anyways. Will no...

Yes, even the voice tone sounded off, then the mention of the carribean holiday. I hung up at this point and then called # on back of card. They couldn't verify the number as being one of the bank's. They were decidedly uninterested in how the scammers could tell they had flagged my card within an h...

Here's one: Yesterday I was at the feed store, dogfood- tap card. Then thought of something else- Tap card. Then went back in for something else, went to tap card and it was denied. (Credit cards must be like baseball, three strikes and you're out) so paid with other card and went home, where a mess...

#3, I guess. Retired from having to commute to town four days a week for my day job -at the age of 56! Have been happily retired for a year now, while still enjoying my little farm. Being a little bit ' differentially abled ' means some chores take longer to complete and I can't overdo certain limbs...

Re: Buying home near train tracks in Winnipeg?

I have a CN track on the eastern property line. I have noticed that they don't vibrate the mirror leaning against a wall as they had in the past. Some trains used to haul coal I remember and I don't see that any more. Might be the heavier the load, the more vibration. Also it may depend some on the ...
