Re: Any questions about CPP?

Thanks to this site I've been reading more about the pros and cons of taking CPP early or waiting until 65. Here's where I get confused about drop out years, etc. Just say I wanted to retire at 50. 23 of 32 working years at max pensionable earnings. Since I would have so many years after 50 with $0...

Re: Crescent Point Energy Corporation - CPG-T

You can check, but I think CVX had negative earnings last year and they aren't covering the dividend. are you looking at earnings or cash flow? a quick look at the 2016 annual report shows dividend is covered by cash flow from operations. i don't like looking at earnings for dividend payout ratio b...

Re: Crescent Point Energy Corporation - CPG-T

Years ago when CPG was around $45 with a 6% dividend yield this darling of Bay street was often touted on BNN. interesting isn't it? i'm sure some of those BNN guests companies had a relationship with CPG or earned fees from the sale of shares. Not a lot of people are going to diss a company if the...

Re: Crescent Point Energy Corporation - CPG-T

i stayed away from CPG because they were always issuing shares then having to pay dividend on a higher share count. then they claimed to find jesus and would stop dilution and i bought some. then a year later guess what - did a bought deal. i was so disgusted i sold and have never considered the com...

down 99% on CXR. I keep it to remind me what happens when I try and be too cute and chase "hot" stocks rather than stick to the boring slow and steady stuff. :)

i'm also down 10% on OTEX but it's a new position and I'm pretty sure things will work out over time.

Re: Home Capital Group (Symbol-HCG)

Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway invests $400-million in bid to solve Home Capital’s woes - The Globe and Mail Once both transactions are completed, Berkshire would own a total stake of almost 39 per cent in Home Capital at an average price of $10 per share. Berkshire is also lending Home Capital $2-bi...

Re: What did you Buy? What might you buy? (2017)

If you think so. My view is CVE is so highly leveraged with the 'very bad' COP purchase, it wouldn't take much loss of cashflow (like Baytex) to be in real, not perceived, crisis mode. It was announced today their CEO is retiring (or is forcibly being retired) and that may be today's market reactio...

Re: What did you Buy? What might you buy? (2017)

I'm wondering where the growth is in the Cdn grocery market. Empire, Loblaw, Metro, WM and throw in Costco and it looks like that is the Cdn grocery market. If market is not growing or growing at low single digits then it's a market share battle and those are usually not great for bottom line metric...

Re: What did you Buy? What might you buy? (2017)

The absolute number is less important than the ratio and they have brought down to almost 1 recently. https://ycharts.com/companies/ENB/debt_equity_ratio I am surprised at that since D/E ratio was terrible not so long ago. Just curious . They made a major acquisition , increased the dividend and de...

Re: What did you Buy? What might you buy? (2017)

Bought some Costco amidst the retail slaughter today due to the buyout of Whole Foods by Amazon. My opinion is that Costco is among the best in retail/grocery and has the best chance of staying relevant for the foreseeable future. i think i'll pass on the entire retail and grocery sectors. too many...

Re: What did you Buy? What might you buy? (2017)

i guess you could make a bearish or bullish case for every stock on the tsx. ENB had an investor day update last week. the presentation is on their site and it's an interesting read. ENB is yielding close to 5% today based on FY current dividend with commitment to raising the dividend. IMO the key f...

with so many high quality stocks out there i can't think of any reason second cup would make into one of the 30 names i own. they have tried numerous things to gain traction in the marketplace but none have taken with consumers. if the stock doubles then good for people who own it - i won't be one o...

i have TD, BNS, RY. Never considered CIBC. Should have picked up BMO years ago when it lagged but 3 banks is enough for me. they usually revert to the mean so laggards end up catching up to the others over time.

there will always be issues facing the banks. always have been, always will be. whatever the issues they are facing the banks consistently find a way to make more money. Certainly, but that is not the point. The point is they were priced to perfection earlier this year....and no one should be expec...
