Re: CRA Refund Cheques

They still send out letters during reassessment even when the recipient is on MyCRA. It seems that old habits die hard, or else their measurement scheme is based on paper.

He might have to track down the contribution room after all these years. But it seems that train has left the station until he rema...

Re: Canadian working remotely in the US

IANAL but I think you have to pay Canadian taxes and your wife has to pay US taxes. If you get your green card, then you are allowed to operate your consulting business in the US. Then you must file with the IRS and then Canada until you file your final return. You must continue to remit GST on Cana...

Re: Housing Bust 2017

I agree that there is a problem when foreign millionaires buy a house here and then send their families who don't work but get free schooling and healthcare, etc... But that has nothing to do with housing. Yes the big problem is that lack of an asset-based means test for everyone who get a governme...

Unfortunately, we don't know of another complete list of Canadian conve...

Re: Are we too old, crusty and conservative

I admit I am old. I have become conservative although I still hold LULU! But I am not crusty. I echo the sentiment that I have shot the moon and had more 10-baggers than flops. But I have no need for that anymore. I draw down my 2% and try to give more money away. I have increased my giving by 30% t...

Yes we know some loyalists who still get great value from buying their products. I see the Amazon initiative as the greatest threat/opportunity to LULU yet. Their stock could go to $90 or collapse once again.

Re: Lululemon IPO

In an apparent resurgence, LULU is again heading towards it all-time peak of $80+ with at least one firm predicting that. LULU renewal . There was also a piece on BNN today that, if they can withstand an attempt by Amazon to knock them off, they might become a target acquisition like Whole Foods was.

I may have misled. When I said backfill maturing fixed income, I only included those that were replaced with equity buys.

About a dozen transactions to keep TFSAs invested, backfill maturing bonds in RRIFs, expanding some sector holdings. Some rebalancing. 30 separate holdings.

Not sure how high is “high”. Maybe a few million? Seems to me that The Presidents designation was for $1 million. It was a special number but the guys could not do anything special. This may be another attempt to create some false sense of special. I agree that all their attempts are now aimed at g...

I was able to find the listed TSX debentures by doing a search for .DB on the TSX Money listed company directory search.

Yup the Morneau/Trudeau strategy will drive business owners into the middle class. Maybe they can buy an IPP from Morneau-Chapelle?

Re: Looking for advice

Buying pre-construction is the most risky way to get into RE, especially condos. OTOH half the home equity is due to you upon formalizing your legal Separation Agreement. So where do you put the $2 million? I would probably put it in a REIT until I could find a move-in ready condo to buy. Time is on...

I think this obsession with credit score is misdirected. What is the everyday impact between 850 and 650?
Until someone can articulate the every day impacts, what difference does it make? I think it is the transactions that lead to the score and not the score itself?
