Re: Budget 2018

I thought we already have a form of estate tax. It's called "deemed disposition on death". Aside from PR, all property is already taxed. To impose another level of estate tax on top of that would be pure theft.

Re: Budget 2018

I'd like to see a cap on PR exemption. A much larger subset of younger generations are going to be lifelong renters, giving people massive tax shelters in the form of home/mansion etc is a bit much imho; I don't see why Canadians need further incentive to buy expensive homes. Housing cos...

Re: Need Help To Decide Between Hedged or Unhedged S&P500 ETF

OP, don't miss this reference in the Finiki article: Why Currency Hedging Doesn’t Work in Canada Most members here don't hedge for the reasons explained in Finiki. You can own both hedged and unhedged as optionable68 suggested. Define valuations ranges for CAD, for example: > 0.85: overvalued 0.75 -...

Re: Ditching XIU and replacing with...

You can use factor ETFs if you are totally convinced that XIU is flawed. For example: First Asset Morningstar Canada Value Index ETF (FXM.TO) First Asset Morningstar Canada Momentum Index ETF (WXM.TO) Price returns since inception (Feb 13, 2012) WXM: +59% FXM: +47% XIU: +26% 50/50 combo of WXM/FXM d...

Is it registered or taxable account? If registered, Beating the TSX strategy is a popular alternative to indexing: http://www.finiki.org/wiki/Beating_the_TSX Some people tweak BTSX rules to achieve more balance across sectors. Thank you. I will give them a call on Monday to solve this mystery.

Unlike TDDI, they are not available in the evenings or on the weekends... not great.

I received $1K transfer bribe on Jan 10. I placed an order next day to buy $1K worth of AAT770 (BMO HISA). The order settled on Jan 12. My January account statement shows: -$1,000 cash in Margin Account. +$1,000 cash in Margin Short Account. Online account shows the same. Does anyone know why BMO IL...

So much work to do after the vacation cleaning up the yard. Picking up blown down branches, hauling debris to dump, pruning trees, applying lime to the lawn, weeding beds.... Neighbour is cutting his grass; I will wait a week for that. FWF and the markets, basically.... https://pbs.twimg.com/media/...

Re: market crash Feb 2018

We haven't yet hit Correction territory, A correction is a reverse movement, usually negative, of at least 10% in a stock, bond, commodity or index to adjust for an overvaluation. Corrections are generally temporary price declines interrupting an uptrend in the market or an asset. A correction has ...

Re: Housing Market 2018

I think the disagreement will always be there. One of us is close to the drain (not me) and has nothing to gain from a national strategy and the other isn't, and is seeing the impact that this plays on the younger and future generation of Canada. You need to have empathy to comprehend the impact on...

Re: Housing Market 2018

The Financial Times published a long article on the state of Canada's housing marking. It loses a certain amount of cred with this in the 2nd para: The two-bed condominium she bought for C$259,000 in 2015 was revalued last year at C$490,000 ($391,000), meaning higher annual property taxes to pay an...

Added to BCE and EMA.

BCE and EMA are the top two stocks in Safer Canadian Dogs screen. Both trade close to 52 week lows and yield more than 5%. Hard to resist the temptation.

TMXMoney shows $25.00 close for VCNS and not a single trade above that price during the day. See the last 25 trades at the bottom of the page:

Yes; Yes; About four weeks, from the moment I filled out the online forms, to the moment I saw the shares in my account.
