Re: Enbridge (Symbol-ENB)..are we getting close to a buy???

I am a stock holder. Would be reluctant to buy until tax loss selling season is over. Mid December? they are saying they will provide guidance around that time.

Re: Small Stock Investing.

....and one that may have gotten away from me was FT (Foot Locker) as I missed it by a couple of pennies the day before its quarterly report...up about 10% since then. :( Thought I was hearing things when I heard on the radio after the market close that Foot Locker went up over 28% today. Sure enou...

Re: Globe Investor

I have been using it for 15 years. . I like the articles they now place on the home page. Insider activity, upgrades and downgrades, Norm R has really good articles . I know they charge for the gold addition. I think it's worth it as it also gives me the G&M. I wonder about the accuracy of some of t...

Sold my positions in Hot.UN and Pure Multi Residential . I just lost my patience. Couldn't see any explanation for the slow downward pressure. Sometimes the market and investors can be a challenge.

Sorry TheGipper, that was my lame attempt at a joke. I apologize if my comment rubbed you the wrong way.

Re: What did you Buy? What might you buy? (2017)

Will look into it. I have concentrated on small caps in my TFSAs . With excellent results. Our two TFSA accounts are in the 210 k range... 210K combined or 210K each? If the latter, I should start paying more attention to your stock ideas. I am not trying to convince anyone on my approach. ...

Re: Small Stock Investing.

Dividend stocks can be misleading . One has to looking a real CF and the payout ratio. I could make a list of those that crashed. My experience with small caps tells me you have to monitor them closely. When they start disappointing or get involved with red flag issues I head for the exits. I would ...

Small Stock Investing.

Since 2009 I have been aggressive in buying small caps and it has been rewarding. I basically used in my taxable accounts and our TFSAs. My taxable accounts are now finished and I have decided to convert our TFSAs to dividend paying stocks. I still buy some small caps in our RRSP and RRIF accounts. ...

Re: Enbridge (Symbol-ENB)..are we getting close to a buy???

I own this stock. My concern is the amount of debt they have accumulated. Last time I looked it was in the 45 billion range. May-be this is a factor weighting in on this stock?

Took small positions in Spinmaster, Photon Controls, Nuvista and AVO. I am always looking at the small cap sector. It has served me well. These were bought inside a RRIF. Also took a much larger position in the DowDupont stock. I needed to diversify away from the US big tech companies that I hold. T...

About 16% of my holdings are in USA techs. Facebook, Apple, Google and Amazon. I am eyeing Microsoft. It seems to becoming something more then Windows with other operations like it's growing cloud business. It's numbers have been quite positive. I also have small positions with Nvidia and Salesforce...

Re: Financial Post Article: Widespread backlogs hamper CRA streamlining, frustrate taxpayers

I was asked for documents supporting my claim for medical expenses. This was in early May and responded in May and I just received my reassessment on the 24h of October. They denied my claim for mileage by saying that claim wasn't supported with documents. IMO they lost the supporting documents. For...

Re: What did you Buy? What might you buy? (2017)

I bought a half position in ITP in the low $18's this morning despite my mantra (preference?) for not buying until a stock has found a firm bottom. Like Jay, I think this stock is oversold as a result of the last quarterly results but the market is still pushing it down. Metrics seem reasonable at ...

Re: Jason Donville

ROE is a very important metric. One can use it as guide provided you understand how leveraging can jack up this metric. I avoid them when they have a high debt to equity ratio . Acquistions can be a good strategy as well provided it is done with discipline. I think a good example is Constellation So...

Four of his major concentrated positions were Home Capital, Valeant , Concordia and CRH Medical. I'm impressed that he managed to lose only 1.66% of his portfolio in 2016, with those stocks being his major positions. He must have done well elsewhere. In fairness I think he he got out of Home Capita...

Jason Donville. He was a market guru for 3 or 4 years. For a while everything he recommended was gold. Now he is no where to be seen or heard.. A core theme was looking for stocks with a high ROE. It was a good metric among others. The problem many of these stocks were highly leveraged. If you can b...

Re: What did you Buy? What might you buy? (2017)

Riocan has an idea of developing their valuable real estate into hybrid condo/retail centres, which I think is a good idea, but the strain of financing that kind of expenditure is going to bring the price further down providing opportunities to jump back in later if I want to. I am still a RioCan o...

Re: CRA review of medical expenses

Thegipper, I wouldn't fret much about not hearing from CRA. I had a similar situation this year with my mother's claim as she has higher than most medical expenses. The manner in which CRA handles things now is that a computer will generate a request for more info if the return is outside certain p...
